How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?

I have a 1999 Honda Civic and I have 150,000 miles on it. I have not changed the timing belt yet. When is it recommended to change it. Do you think I am pushing my luck by waiting until the summer to do it. My car runs like the day I bought it, perfect. I am not having any problems but someone was talking about it the other day and that got me thinking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank youHow many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?Timing belts won't slip, they will break. If you were lucky, your engine will be among those with non interference engines. This means that if the belt breaks, the belt will simply need replacement.

Your Civic has an interference engine. This basically means that the valves go down further than the piston goes up. If the belt/chain breaks, a piston or two will repeatedly punch the valves. In other words, you will need a new engine.

If your looking for an excuse to get a new car, so be it. Otherwise, your skating on thin ice. You might get 50,000 miles, you might get 5 miles. Chances are, that 10 year old rubber is getting pretty hard and cracked. It's just a matter of time and miles before it will break. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?Wow - you're way over due - 60,000 miles is the norm.

Your timing belt will NOT give you any symptoms what so ever - it will simply strip or break and leave you stranded, usually 10 miles from the nearest town in either direction on a desolate road with no cell signal. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?You are pushing it with that maney miles on it. I always change it at 50,000 miles. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?you are pushing it. But look at the belt and see if it shows ANY signs of wear or fraying. If it does, have it towed.

If it breaks you probably destroy your engine.

When you change it, change the tensioner and the water pump at the same time.

Depends on car and engine, but usual numbers are 60k to 90k miles.
