Advise on a timing belt?

...my car is at 171,000 miles I changed the timing belt at around 90,000 miles, when I did so the belt was taken off and found to be in good condition regardless of the fact I had 90,000 miles.

now 4 years later I do not want to spend the cash changing my belt when it may not need changing despite the milage recommendations.

How can I know for sure that the belt needs changing, will an aotomotive technician be able to determine if a belt is bad or not prior to changing?Advise on a timing belt? Most timing belts are recommended to be changed every 80 to 90 K miles. This is to keep you from having to spend more money on getting other parts when the belt is allowed to break and damages the engine. The belt may have looked good but a 45.00 dollar belt plus labor is very cheap to having to have the head repaired along with new head gaskets plus who know other parts that will be need when the belt breaks.

After 90 K miles for your car the belt is worn and though some can go for a longer period of time it could break at any time. To me it is less expensive and less time down with out your car by having the belt changed now instead of hoping to catch it before it breaks.Advise on a timing belt?It is %26quot;recomended%26quot; to be changed at those intervals...but if it is running normal you don't need to change it.

If you take it to a Good Repair facility usually recomended by AAA or Better Business Bereau. They will be able to tell you with little to no charge...Pep Boys is notorious for telling people the need new ones right away.Advise on a timing belt?are you willing have the belt fail and distroy the engine?Advise on a timing belt?I would would change it. would it cost more than being stranded or worse cause internal damage to the engine if it broke?
