'97 Mercury Tracer Timing Belt Change?

The owners manual for my car doesn't specify how often to get the timing belt changed. The intervals range anywhere from 30k-90k depending on what kind of vehicle, so please don't give me a generic answer unless you specifically know for the '97 Tracer, thanks!'97 Mercury Tracer Timing Belt Change?it`s the same as the Ford escort with the same motor.

When the timing belt breaks, it KILLS the engine when the valves stop moving right where they are but the pistons keep moving, bending the valves and putting holes in the tops of the pistons.

It *might* last 90,000 miles, but do you really want to find out?

30,000 is way too low, I have never heard of that.

However the SAME motor for all the cars Except 97 Tracer says 100,000 miles.

http://www.connieanddicks.com/tbelt.html'97 Mercury Tracer Timing Belt Change?maybe it doesn't have a timing belt but a timing chain. knowing what size engine is in it would help. if you don't want generic answers, don't ask generic questions.

Does anyone know how much it cost to have a timing belt changed on a 2009 chevy aveo?

It is a new car only have 300 miles on it,but I see the timing belt must be changed at 60,000 miles or it can damage the engine. I will not even waite that long,I will have it done at around 50,000 just to make sure.

I was just wondering the cost of this for the futureDoes anyone know how much it cost to have a timing belt changed on a 2009 chevy aveo?a timing belt usually runs about $500 it includes belt water pump and seals (crank seal, cam seal ) just to be on the safe side you should change these things wihle it is tore down now for trouble free operation later and always use a certified shop or a GM dealer.Does anyone know how much it cost to have a timing belt changed on a 2009 chevy aveo?Check your local chevy dealership and don't waste your MONEY by doing it 10,000 miles early. The change time giving by the manufacture was a conservative number so that people who go over a little bit still will for the most part be ok. But do it around 60,000 miles give or take a few miles.Does anyone know how much it cost to have a timing belt changed on a 2009 chevy aveo?dont worry about it/at your rate we will all be dead and buried at your 60k/besides the whole world goes up in 2012/dec 21 so your belt will be safe

02' civic timing belt change/trans flush?

I just had my oil changed and the guy said that I needed to get my timing belt changed bc its one of those intervals. I bought my civic wit 72,000mi on it and now it has like 108,880mi on it. Do I absolutely need to get it changed? What happens if the timing belt breaks? And how much does it cost to get it changed and how much is a trans flush? (only answer if u've had experience or have some knowledge about these things) Thanks!!02' civic timing belt change/trans flush? The interval for replacing a timing belt is between 70 - 80K.

If it breaks...

And you try to start your car, you can simply throw away the keys. It's one of the worst things you can have happen to your vehicle. What happen is the %26quot;Timing Belt%26quot; lets the spark plugs know when to fire to push the piston down and create power to move your car. If the belt breaks and you try to turn it over the spark plugs don't know when to fire and will try; hence, siezing your engine solid and will require and complete engine rebuild.

Now the really crappy reality... It's 700 - 800 beans to have the belt replaced by Honda and they will recommend having the water pump replaced as well, which is included in the above price. Because there is so much involved to replacing the belt you might as well replace the pump at that time. Instead of paying another fortune to replace it later.

I never had my Trans Flushed and I drive an '03 Civic with 140K on it currently.

Good luck.02' civic timing belt change/trans flush?Timing belt breaks it can ruin the engine. It was scheduled for change at 90,000, get it done. $450 with a water pump.

Trans flush should run around $225 if they use Honda fluid otherwise around $125.02' civic timing belt change/trans flush?Timing belts generally are due to be changed every 100,000 miles. Im not sure what type of motor you have, but I think its whats called an interfering motor. Basically, if the timing belt breaks, the pistons in the motor start hitting the valves, and all sorts of bad things happen (generally throw away and buy new). The belt is just like anything else, and will wear out. The trans flush should be pretty cheap. If youre going to not do something, dont to the Trans flush, just have the fluid and filter changed. The belt is a lot of labor, but I wouldnt think it would be more then a couple hundred bucks. Check with the dealor, they will give you pretty much the highest price you should be paying, if your shop is cheaper, then go with them.

Can anyone tell me if a timing belt put back on without taking it in??

I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid and the timing belt fell off still is in great shape and was wondering if you could change a timing belt yourself it or see if it needed to be taken in, if so how much would it cost? Can anyone tell me if a timing belt put back on without taking it in??Lover NAF is 100% right... could be a tensioner. But if you replace a tensioner you replace the belt.

Think of it like this. If your leg fell off, would you replace the training shoe or go see a doctor?????Can anyone tell me if a timing belt put back on without taking it in??Yes it can be replaced by a home mechanic. But given your timing belt fell of, you probably have engine damage. Most of the modern engines are %26quot;interference%26quot; design (meaning it will cause damage when the belt breaks or falls off).

So you probably have to go see a dealer or an mechanic anyway.

Call your dealer to see if the engine is an interference design. Call few dealers as some will lie.

===

For the condition of the belt, it does NOT matter if it is in good or bad condition. Most of the cost of the timing belt swap is the cost of labor. So why spend hundreds of dollars and put back a cheap and used part - and risk doing it again in few mile down the line.

===

As for the cost, that depends on where you live and whether you take it to a dealer or to a indy shop.

Good Luck...Can anyone tell me if a timing belt put back on without taking it in??You can do it, go to the auto zone web site the DIY repair pages for your care will give you instructions and pictures. Be sure to use a new belt and tensioner. A bad tensioner caused this. Can anyone tell me if a timing belt put back on without taking it in??to change a timing belt, you must remove all the pulleys and the front timing cover. turn the engine over until the engine is top dead centre on cmpression stroke #1 cylinder. line up the timing marks and insall belt.

2001 VW Jetta 1.8T Timing Belt Change Cost?

Any ideas of how much it might cost to bring my jetta to a shop and have the timing belt changed?2001 VW Jetta 1.8T Timing Belt Change Cost?It will vary but should be almost a set fee at many shops. Call ahead and get an estimate, most places will be glad to give one.

There are always certain discrepancies that cannot be estimated like need new idler or tensioner pullies(bad bearings) so remember the estimate is only just that.

Do this every 60K miles I have seen engines destroyed by snapped belts at 62,000 miles!!!!! It is an %26quot;interferrence Engine%26quot; and the valves WILL contact the pistons if the timing belt breaks. Even at idle it can bend every valve when the belt fails, so don't wait if tyou are close and quit driving if over!

Get the water pump done while your in there. It's the labor that makes it cost so much.2001 VW Jetta 1.8T Timing Belt Change Cost?A reputable aftermarket shop should charge 3-400$. Timing belt is not the place on your car to be cheap, your 1.8t also has a waterpump that is driven by it. VW recomends a T-belt at 105k, in my experience after 80k its time to think about it. Parts that should be replaced T-belt, tensioner for t-belt, water pump, coolant. optional is the hydrolic damper for the belt( its a sort of a shock absorber that applies a little pressure to the tensioner) if its not leaking i would leave it, also drive belt (for alt. power steering, a/c) . • What do I need to buy for a major tune up and how many miles before changing your timing belt?

I have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo SS with 93k miles and I have not yet had maintenance done accept regular oil changes. What do I need to buy for a major tune up and how many miles before changing your timing belt?Good list above. I just wanted to add that you don't have a timing belt so that is not a concern. You have the 3800 series II V6 and none of those 3.8s, going back over 20 years, ever used a timing belt. What do I need to buy for a major tune up and how many miles before changing your timing belt?Read the long fairly thick book that resides in the glove box. If it is AWOL, call the dealer. You have replaced the air and fuel filters too right? What do I need to buy for a major tune up and how many miles before changing your timing belt?it's time :-) plugs/wires, and all the regular stuff, timing belt I heard? 30000 mi. my moms Lumina froze the top end, it was repaired Big $$, with no gaurentee the bottom half wouldn't go...What do I need to buy for a major tune up and how many miles before changing your timing belt?ok...

timing belt- that should be replaced either 1)- when you notice that the belt is either damaged or starting to crack all over, looking kinda like dry rot. 2)- somewhere in the ballpark of 100,000 - 120,000 miles. whichever is first, of course

as far as tune up parts...

    Oil

    Oil filter

    Air filter

    Transmission filter

    Transmission fluid

    Spark Plugs

    Spark Plug wires

    cabin air filter (if equipped)

Grease (for ball joints and other grease fittings)

    Wipers (if necessary)

You should flush your transmission at roughly 100,000 miles, or as recommended by your mechanic. also, if you are using full synthetic oil (which i believe most of the GM SS's are using them now. )

    Hope this helps

How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?

I just bought my first car 2 months ago (got insurance a few days ago). The car is an R reg FIAT Punto. Ive got some receipts from the previous owner but I cant find one to say that the timing belt had been replaced.

The belt looks new and the cam cover has been cracked by someone over-tightening it. It sounds to me like its been done but I know what damage it can do if it breaks!

Is there a way to see if its ok?

How do i know if it needs to be changed?

(When it snaps on the M6??, ha ha, very funny!)

Anyone know? How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?My suggestion, take it to a Fiat Dealership/garage one that warranty's their work and pay to have the belt changed, this way should it break after wards you have a guarantee.

Normally when I timing belt is changed it is annotated under the hood or in the maintenance log part of your owners manual.

Best of luckHow do I know if I need to change my timing belt?If it is not cracked on the outside, It is most likely OK. You didn't mention how many miles were on the vehicle, that is a factor that manufacturers list and recommend. Visual is the only real way to see if it is OK. On some engines, it is possible for the valves to crash into the pistons, this is usually fatal for a motor. If it looks easy to change, wait until some cracks appear and get it changed. My daughter had one break, no damage, it just conked out, instantly! How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?In general it needs to be changed when the manufacturer says to change it (ignore those idiots who tell you to look at it, the belt can break even if it looks just fine).

If you're not sure whether it's been changed and it would be due for a change (or overdue) then get it changed (when it snaps is not a good idea considering the expense of a cylinder head rebuild). How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?Look at the odometer. 60,000 miles on the car yet?. Chances are the belt has not been replaced yet. They are done about every 60. intervals. Ask the dealer as to what their interval number is(it may be higher or lower).

There is no way to know by looking at it. Even if it looks OK, it is advisable to change them every 60,000 miles just to be safe.

When in doubt, change it. For the cost of the belt is much less than the cost of an engine rebuild or replacement(if you are really unlucky)How do I know if I need to change my timing belt? You will only know if you know the mileage on that belt or when engine conks out.How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?if your worried about it change it before it snaps and causes a lot more problemsHow do I know if I need to change my timing belt?As a general rule if you don't know that it has been changed then get the job done.

It depends on the car, but on many modern cars having a cambelt let go is to have all sorts of engine part collide at very high speeds, an engine destroying moment.

I would get the haynes or similar and see what the recomended intervals are for your car unser your kind of use.

For vehicles doing stop start that can be as low as 15 thousand miles out on the motorway all day and it could be a lot longer.

There is no fail safe way of telling if the cambelt is on it's way out. Very often they look fine on the outside and are letting go on the inside.

As a job it's towards the top of what a DIY mechanic can do, often needing special tools to do the job too.

RHow do I know if I need to change my timing belt? You can look at your belt, if you see it is chaffed or cracked along the top around the pully it will be better to change it, another way to test it is while your car is standing remove cover and twist it side to side if it has a crackiling feeling or if you hear a crackling, you should seriously change it.

A timing belt needs to be changed every 75000 Km, so if your car has more than this on the clock and you have all the reciepts chances are it was changed already. How do I know if I need to change my timing belt?looks can be decieving. if you are unsure you probably want to replace it to ensure there will be no damage to the engine. if there is any way you can get in contact with the previous owner to inquire if the belt was replaced i would do so.

How much is it go get your timing belt changed?

I have 1998 honda Cr-v and it was 120k on it. I got an oil change today and they told me i need to get it changed soon. They told me it would be around $375. Is that a good price?

Please Help!?!How much is it go get your timing belt changed? That is a good price as long as they are going to change the water pump also. If you don't replace the timing belt and water pump at the same time, and the water pump goes out, they have to charge you the same amount of money in labor as they do with the timing belt. When I worked at a Honda dealer last year (in St. Louis) it was about $725 for the timing belt and water pump to be replaced in the same job.

I do HIGHLY recommend doing both of them ASAP though. Once those engines reach 100k miles, no matter how well taken care of, those timing belts and water pumps are made to only last so long. If they are not replaced (especially the timing belt) kiss your engine good bye. If that belt breaks, the engine locks up and the cylinders come out of the engine (I've seen it happen). I'm glad that you are concerned about getting this done though, I can not stress how important of a job this is to have done, it really is $700 (or however much you end up paying) well spent. How much is it go get your timing belt changed?that is a good price, but if you have your belt changed you should also do your water pump, with that many miles it won't be that long before you might need to get it done and you already have that part of the engine apart. How much is it go get your timing belt changed?I have seen much lower prices advertised on signs at local shops. It does depend quite a bit upon what kind of car or engine you have. On some cars, it would actually be easier and cheaper to just replace the entire engine with a used one from Japan! (If you do it yourself). Others, it's as easy as changing your radiator. To get the best deal, you need to get an idea of how big or small the job really is; by asking several mechanics. They'll be glad to compete for your business! How much is it go get your timing belt changed?Put it this way. Timing belt = $375.00 Engine = $ 5000 or more. Now is it worth it? I would think 375.00 is a fair price. I am not at my shop so I cant say exactly. But ball park 375 sounds good. How much is it go get your timing belt changed?Go for it. I heard $500-$600.How much is it go get your timing belt changed?is the $375 for parts, labor or both? if for both, it's a very good price. How much is it go get your timing belt changed?I don't know what state your in, (the country, not your mental state) but that sounds like a dealership price to me. I'd check with a couple of independent shops that have a good reputation. Changing the belt does cost big bucks, but it's cheaper than an engine overhaul, which you'll need if the belt breaks.

    Changing timing belt myself :)?

my car needs new timing belt, shop asked $170 for labor (80 for belt and 130 for water pump, i found belt online for 30 and not planing on changing water pump) My buddy who is not mechanic but done alot of work on his cars told me that we can do it ourselves and save $ on labor. He says its only couple bolts and some elbow greasy. I see how it would be easy to put belt on two bottom pulleys but top one might be a problem?. will I have to stretch the belt to fit in or is there some other way. Thanks

by the way its 2004 suzuki forenzaChanging timing belt myself :)?The belt is a tight fit, but not impossible. I'm not familiar with your exact setup, but some cars have an idler pulley that is used to tension the belt. This can be spring loaded or have an adjustment bolt that allows much easier belt installation.

The only %26quot;trick%26quot; to installing the new belt is making sure the timing is correct. That is the crank and cam(s) pulleys are aligned properly. Check the Chilton or Haynes repair manual for how to set them as there are numerous ways that engine manufacturers use to mark the correct positioning. Most have the #! piston @TDC and the #1 cylinder intake valve(s) just closed. Also the location of the distributor or sensor unit that determines the plug firing must be coordinated so that the #1 plug is ready to fire.

BTW: Some engines position the water pump so that the timing belt needs to be removed to get at it. (Subaru does this) It is usually a good idea to replace the water pump while everything is apart, rather than having it go bad a week or month later. (I think that's one of Murphy's laws: A part will go bad right after the parts in front of it are replaced!) Water pumps are cheap compared to many other parts. I'd also replace all fan belts as you put the engine back together if they aren't pretty new. (Removing and reinstalling used belts tends to stretch them and amplify any cracks that were starting to develop.)Changing timing belt myself :)?Timing belts are normally pretty difficult and time consuming to put on. They normally swap the water pump out at the same time because it is so hard to get to normally but is easy while you are doing the timing belt. And it is normally the next thing to wear out. I would highly recommend doing the water pump at the same time.Changing timing belt myself :)?Yes, you can do it yourself, it's not rocket science....but neither is it as simple as replacing a fan belt. If the shop wants $170 for labor, they expect it's going to take professionals several hours to do the job. You don't have to stretch the belt to fit, there should be an adjuster...but you will have to make sure that several timing marks are all lined up with the correct reference marks. This after all is the belt which coordinates all the timing in the engine. The reason the water pump is replaced at the same time is that they have a similar life span to a timing belt, and you're right in there. Replace it now and you'll thank yourself later.

If your buddy has experience with timing belts, then go ahead and it will be a good learning experience. At least get yourself a shop manual and see what you're getting into. OTOH, the shop has quoted you a fair price.

When should I change my timing belt? 1997 Corolla?

I have a 1997 Corolla with 87,000 miles on it.

I took it to my mechanic a couple months ago and had him check the timing belt to see if it was worn--he said he couldn't see any cracks or evidence of it being severely worn, but also said that that didn't really matter because the timing belt doesn't have to have visible signs for it to snap.

When should I replace it %26amp; about how much does that cost?

Also, I've heard that there are two kinds of engines--ones that will be destroyed when the belt snaps and ones that won't and the car just shuts down. How do you know which type your car has?

Thanks! When should I change my timing belt? 1997 Corolla?ive noticed that average milage is around 100,000 miles and that is when most auto makers recomend replacing the belts the average cost on all i do is 750.00 so good luck p.s. if a belt breaks more than likely it will cause more damage like bending your valves in the head real high dollar expenseWhen should I change my timing belt? 1997 Corolla?Your mechanic was correct..a timing belt does not have to have any visible signs of decay/ wear in order to fail. Every car equipped with a belt has a specific mileage interval assigned by the manufacturer as to when the timing belt should be replaced; It is most commonly 60, 90, or 105 thousand miles. Not all engines have belts; most are chain or even gear driven; these do not require any kind of maintenance beyond regular oil changes.

As for the two types of engine, they are known as interference, and non-interference. In the interference engine, the valves and pistons are extremely close to each other, and if the belt breaks, or even jumps a tooth, the pistons can/ will bend or even break valves, which requires removal of the cylinder head to repair. Non-interference engines are designed with enough clearance so that if the belt breaks, the pistons cannot make contact with the valves, so no internal damage will occur.

Unfortunately, interference engines are much more common, especially on import cars. Your mechanic can tell you for sure which type you have.

As for cost, prices generally range from around $400, to over $1,000; some vehicles have more than one belt, or are much more mechanically complex to change. 4 cylinder japanese cars tend to be the cheapest; 4,6, and 8 cylinder german/ european cars are the costliestWhen should I change my timing belt? 1997 Corolla?Your mechanic isn't being entirely honest with you. Belts don't simply snap all of a sudden after a given amount of time. Stress fractures, and fraying must and will occur before they actually break. Unless of course you live in an area where the temperatures are extremely low, in which case a sudden change in temperature mixed with a high friction ratio could cause the rubber to lose structural integrity and break. Replacing belts every 60-70,000 miles is a general rule of thumb simply because it is easier to remember and saves you if you happened to miss a bad place on the belt during inspection. If the mechanic saw no damage or deterioration, then I would feel safe keeping it on if he quoted you a high price for replacing it. It's hard to say exactly how much it would cost you. It could range anywhere from $200.00 to $800.00, depending on how much labor is involved. I've seen motors that only needed a prying bar and some elbow grease, and some that required the removal of entire suspension components and/or valve covers. It all depends on your particular engines orientation. As to your last question, any car can suffer severe damage or simply choke down when a belt breaks. Worst case, your valves drop as the piston is coming up (because without a belt it is now out of sync/time) and damages the valves, which is a major and costly repair. Best case, the fuel/air mixture will simply be so far off that the car chokes down and will not run. Any car can do either, it simply depends on where in the valve rotation cycle the cams are when the break actually happens. Hope that answered everything for you. And good luck with the car.

I assume you installed the properly so that the timing was correct? The cam shaft and crank shaft must be in proper time for the engine to run (start). If you have a interference engine you may have done a lot of damage to the valves and pistons.I change my timing belt on my car after i was done. i tryed to started but it dint how can i fix any 1 tell me?year make and model would really help. some engines are %26quot;interference engines%26quot; this means when the timing belt beaks it will allow the pistons to hit and bend the valves which will require the cylinder head to be removed an the bent valves replaced. If it is not one of these engines then you probably did not align the timing marks properly. consult a repair manual for your make and model to determine proper valve timingI change my timing belt on my car after i was done. i tryed to started but it dint how can i fix any 1 tell me?Please , take apart and try timing it again. How much should it cost to replace my timing belt for honda accord 94?

I don't know much about cars, but my brother says my car needs to get the timing belt changed to get rid of the loud noise. He believes it's too tight/loose and that's where the noise is coming from... I need to get an idea of how much a mechanic would charge me. Thanks! How much should it cost to replace my timing belt for honda accord 94?If you haven't replaced your timing belt in the last 90,000 miles, it needs to be replace along with your timing belt driven water pump if that's never been replaced. Also your belt tensioner and idler pulleys need replacing. Total cost at a Honda dealer: About $750. You have an %26quot;interference%26quot; type engine which is damaged (bent valves $$) if the belt breaks. How much should it cost to replace my timing belt for honda accord 94?It should cost around $250 give or take $50. How do i successfully setup the timing on a 1993 2.2l accord after changing the timing belt?

i know the marks on the cam have to be at TDC and the crank pulley at TDC. there are also marks on the flywheel. the marks are tdc and a few inches past that is 3 red marks. do i need to set the cam at TDC and the crank at these red ignition marks for the timing to be correct? the engine is running but very poorly and dies often. i believe the timing is retarded. advice? How do i successfully setup the timing on a 1993 2.2l accord after changing the timing belt?Mark on cam pointed up and the two lines 180 degrees apart on cam gear must be line up parallel with top of cylinder head. Then mark on crankshaft at TDC,single mark on crank pulley line up with mark on oil pump housing.Check for everything lined up again after tensioner is in its position putting pressure on the belt. How do i successfully setup the timing on a 1993 2.2l accord after changing the timing belt?what carmen said + make sure you replace the balance shaft belt as well, the left hand shaft should have a mark to line it up and the other can be held in place with a metal rod (screwdriver) inserted on the firewall side of the engine.

  • How do I remove the crank pulley bolt so I can change my timing belt?

I'm trying to change the timing belt on my 1997 VW Jetta 2 liter. I can not remove the crank pulley bolt even with a 1/2' impact. Am I turning it the wrong way? Is it counter clockwise or clockwise? The bolt head is a 19 mm 12 point. Any tips on how to remove it would be appreciated. How do I remove the crank pulley bolt so I can change my timing belt?Take the 19pt, and use a 6 inch 1/2 inch extension, and a 24%26quot; breaker bar.

Place the socket on the bolt.

Place the extension on the socket.

Place the breaker bar on the extension and brace it on the ground.

    Stand well clear

either jump the starter to 12Vdc, or use the ignition key to kick the starter....How do I remove the crank pulley bolt so I can change my timing belt? For all the times (15) I have replaced timing belts, at NO time did I have to remove the crank pulley bolt.

If you want to take off the crankshaft pulley there are3 allen head screws that hold it onto the crankshaft. You may have to pick out the mud and tar out of the holes with a small screwdriver or a nail(or both) and it is a %26quot;metric%26quot; allen key. Using an imperial measure wrench in it is a guaranteed F.U.as there is no size %26quot;close enough and you will round out the inside of the hole. Then it becomes a real pain with a visegrip(maybe) They are on tight so you need to get the allen key in deep and probably twack the end of key with the hammer(lefty loosey) to get it started. WD40 is not of use here as these are torqued on.

Once the pulley is off, then the plastic housing that protects the timing belt from road crud pulls off easily(after you loosen a few bolts).

Had you got a repair manual from the public library, it would have told you this with pictures to boot. How do I remove the crank pulley bolt so I can change my timing belt?u really dont take off the pulleys, u lock the cam and the crank pulleys and then there should be a tensioner u can move, please dont take the crank pulley off or your car will be out of timing and run like a bag of sh!t

If my timing belt broke as im driving?

im guessing i wont be able to accelerate rite? what would i hear? just a loud clanking and flapping noise from the hood? also.. say the belt is already broke and i try to start it. what would i hear then? i know it'll probably break my pistons and whatnot. how often should i change my timing belt?If my timing belt broke as im driving?I had this happen to me. The timing belt broke and the engine just died. Lost my power steering and braking, which can be hard for some people.

If this happens, there is a chance for engine damage depending on the engine type, interference or non-interference. An interference engine means the maximum height of the pistons is enough to reach the lowest point of the valves. If that happens you would most likely bend your valves and damage the piston, which usually junks the car. This could also happen if you try to start the car with an interference engine after the belt brakes, so be careful.

My mechanic told me the timing belt should be changed about 75,000 miles. This question could be more accurately answered by a dealer technician. If my timing belt broke as im driving? The engine would shut down, you would likely lose power steering and brakes, you car would coast to a stop wherever you happened to be, you could spin the engine with the starter it would spin but not fire up.If my timing belt broke as im driving? If your timming belt broke, you would hear massive metal crashing cause your valves would hit the pistons. Your timming belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles to prevent this.If my timing belt broke as im driving? You'd be in worse trouble if it happens while you're driving. A lot of major damage can occur that way. I've seen it drive pistons right through the bottom of the engine.

If it's already broken, and you try to start it, nothing will happen. You'll hear the engine sound like it's trying to start, but it won't engage, and no damage will occur. It's suggested that you change it every 60,000 - 70,000 miles. I've never given it that long. I've always changed it at 50,000 miles. If my timing belt broke as im driving? The engine will stop immediately and you will not be able to accelerate. Any subsequent attempts at starting will result in further damage to the engine. A timing belt which breaks when the engine is running may damage your cylinder head, camshaft, valves, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft and even the engine block.

Timing belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles, with periodic checks in between to ensure it is in sound condition.

2-in-1 q. What's the difference in damage if one lets a timing belt live its life out until breakage?

    Car: Subaru Forester

What is better, to change the timing belt around 100,000? or how high? or to let it break on its own.

What, if any, collateral damage incurs by simply leaving it be until it breaks on its own?

    2. If the water pump isn't exchanged at this time, will it strip the belt once it also breaks down?2-in-1 q. What's the difference in damage if one lets a timing belt live its life out until breakage?you need really change the timing belt at around 60.000 miles if you let it break then it will cause all sorts of big problems like bent valves broken pistons and so on as for the water pump no it will not strip the belt2-in-1 q. What's the difference in damage if one lets a timing belt live its life out until breakage? In all seriousness, that's like asking why we shouldn't wait until the vehicle runs completely out of gas instead of when the indicator shows close to empty - or why we should replace the tires when the wear bar indicators are exposed instead of driving them for all their worth.

The answer is simple - no one wants to break down on the freeway during rush hour or walk home during a snow storm.

I have a 1998 Mustand V6, I wanted to know at how many miles I should change the timing belt. Im at 120,028 M?

A 1998 Mustang 3.8L V6 doesn't have a timing belt. It has a timing chain. They usually last a good long time, but you might want to take it to a shop and have them check it for tension and to see if your tensioner is still holding. At 120,000 miles parts are going to start wearing out. It's best to keep ahead of them.

How much should I pay for a time belt change on a 1992 Lexus LS400?

The car has 120,000 miles and I was advised to change the belt but the price seemed too high for a part change even with California standards. I was wondering if anyone has a ballpark price for this part change. Thank you.How much should I pay for a time belt change on a 1992 Lexus LS400?With all due respect to %26quot;December M,%26quot; do NOT follow that advice. Preventive maintenance is always better (and less expensive) than corrective maintenance. The flat rate for changing the timing belt is 4.6 hours. Find a reputable garage that will do the work, check them out with the Better Business Bureau, and try to find one with the lowest labor rate. At $100/hr, the labot would be $460.00. The price for the timing belt may be somewhere near $175 - $200.

Should the timing belt break while the engine is running, engine damage wold most likely occur and the cost would be well above the replacement of just the tiing belt.

Good luck. How much should I pay for a time belt change on a 1992 Lexus LS400?I would never change a belt until it breaks, otherwise how do you know you got your full use and money's worth out of the old one?

    Hi,

We have a 1990 Honda Accord sedan which needs a timing belt. My husband knows how to change timing belts in general but has never done so on a Honda and needs to know the process. He knows he needs take off the water pump and motor mount, however he's not sure how to take off the motor mount. He's heard it comes off in pieces. He also mentioned something about some accessories that he's not sure if they have to come off. What he needs is a step by step instruction. Does anybody know of a website that would give him what he needs? Thanks,

The manual will give you step by step information on how to do it. It also explains step by step how to do practically anything to your car. Every mechanic will tell you that they are invaluable. Your local library might have one as well. I have got one for every car I have owned. It depends on the car as to what has to be taken off, my old 90 daytona i did a water pump and had to take the motor mounts off, the belts off, the timing belt off just to get to the water pump. Get the manual and read up on it to see if it is something he can do. They usually run about 20 bucks or so. good luck.

I have never changed the 'timing belt' in my 1994 Honda Accord EX. I have been informed by the dealer that the 'timing belt' should have been changed at 90,000 miles. As of right now I am 65,000 miles over the recommended change cycle. How long can I honestly expect this 'timing belt' to last or am I driving on borrowed time. How to change a timing belt in a geo metro?

On the old 1.0 liter metro, remove the accessory drive (drive belts, anything in front of the timing cover). Remove the harmonic balancer from the crankshaft. Remove timing cover. Line up the timing marks on the crank and the cam. Release tension from the tensioner. Install new timing belt and apply tension to the belt. Turn the engine over by hand 2 revolutions of the crank shaft. Double check timing marks. If they are still lined up, reinstall timing cover and harmonic balancer and the rest of the parts you took off. If the marks are not lined up, remove belt, re-time, install belt and turn over and repeat until the marks line up.

How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?

I have a Toyota Corolla 2004 LE edition. In order not to run into problems, how often should I get the Alternator and Timing Belt changed? Every 5 years? I know this seems like a very obselete question, but I want to make sure my car is in good shape. It currently has 42,290 miles on it and it's 3 years old.How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Timing belts are 80k-100k miles depending on driving conditions.

    Alternator Belt ....???

Toyota I can only assume is like Nissan, Honda, %26amp; VW in that they check belts and hoses as part of their maintenance every 10k miles. Those would be changed as needed but at 42,290k miles your car would have gone through a lot if it already needs these items changed but every car has its kwirks. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed? The recommended time to change your timing belt is every 60,000 miles. If you wait until it breaks, you will be replacing an engine instead. Since replacing the timing belt entails remove all of the other belts first, it would be a great time to replace the accessory belts at the same time. Rack time is expensive. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Do you have the 4 or 6?

A good way to tell is look at it, if it has small cracks or glazing it needs to be replaced. The cracks will be in the V side not the smooth side.

If you have a 4 cyl then you have a timing chain, the V6 has a belt, if it breaks there is no motor damage that is not a interference motor. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?if you have a 4 cylinder engine you have a serpentine belt and it should be changed about every 50k or as needed, and 4 cyl. has a timing chain not a belt. if you have a v6 then you have two drive belts that should be changed 50k or as needed, and the timing belt should be changed every 90k or as needed. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Once a yearHow often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Starting in 1998, Corollas went to a timing CHAIN. Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...head gasket blew..help!!?

My automatic 2003 Dodge SX 2.0 has reached 60,000 miles 2 weeks ago, so I went to change the timing belt, the water pump, and did a seasonal check up and they told me everything was fine. It cost me around $550 for all of it.

Between then and now (2 weeks later), I drove the car like 4-5 times. Yesterday when I was driving, something weird happened to the rpm. Then some smoke came from the front of my car. I drove 5 more min to park it, then after I parked I saw a whole trail of liquid following my car. This morning when I woke up, there is a big puddle of liquid under my car.

I towed it to the same mechanic who fixed the timing belt, and he told me the thermostat wasn't working properly and engine cooling wasn't going in through as it should, then it overheated and the head gasket blew, and all the liquid that was on the floor was engine cooling liquid. Yesterday it was saturday and he couldnt give me a price to fix it cuz all the shop to order pieces were closed. I asked if this had anything to do with the timing belt being changed, and he told me no. I will figure out Monday how much it will cost.

Do you know if this couldve happened when they were changing the timing belt and they screwed up something?? I really feel so. And how much would it cost?

Thanks!!Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...head gasket blew..help!!?First, if you don't trust your mechanic, find a new one.

Second, it probably isn't related to your timing belt. It's just bad luck.Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...head gasket blew..help!!?As a mechanic the only thing i can say is, the mechanic would have had to take the thermostat out to see if it was stuck in order to tell you that. But that would have resulted in your Temperature gauge to take off to 260 degrees or the coolant light on the dash would have come on signalling the driver that his car is overheated. If this happened to you while you were driving it then that could have caused the head gasket failure. Cars overheat from cooling fans not working as well as thermostat problems and low coolant or waterpump and radiator problems. If this was not the case you may be a victim of coincidence with no other way to prove otherwise. Cost of repair? 700 to 1000 bucks. This whole scenario really sucks, too many %26quot;gray%26quot; areas.Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...head gasket blew..help!!?wll it ws possible it might had something to do with timing belt much not much more likely you didnt see the sign it was running hot and you didnt pull over and stop and drove to far with it hot costing more money thermostat cost like 12 buck head gasket might be another 500 car care priceless

How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback?

I was told to also change the water pump while having the timing belt changed. I have 110 K miles on the car. I guess it's about time. How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback? This depends where you go to,

i have a 99 Civic Dx (same engine as yours, currently with 167k miles, had the belt changed at about 130ish k miles)

The belt it self is cheap its about $50, but since its somewhat labor intensive to get to and change the belt, some people will rip you off.

I live in southern california, specifically the san fernando valley,

I went to Kolbe Honda on Reseda blvd in Northridge,CA ( i pretended to know nothing about honda's to see if the guy would give me a fair price or not) He said %26quot; its going to cost more money because yours in Dual Cam%26quot; and this was a factory certified tech supposedly , (i was laughing in my head because i know for sure its a single cam [d16y7]) anyways he quoted me more than $850 for labor alone, not including the water pump. (in my opinion a total rip-off, and idiot).

Next to get another estimate i went to a Honda/Acura Specialist shop they quoted $450 including the water pump but not the belt.

I still wanted to see if i could get it cheaper so i still shopped around and called another dealership further away (about 100 miles away).

I went to Robertson Palmdale Honda, The guy KNEW what he was talking about and gave me a estimate of $300 over the phone, when i went to the service department after tax it was $325 (me supplying the belt.)

all in all it cost me $375 for the labor including all necessary parts including the water pump.

point is shop around or else you could get stuck paying more for the same service, BTW all 3 were factory certified honda technicians. How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback? If you go to the dealer, prepare to pay big money. You can go to a good Honda specialist and have it done for around $300. The reason the other items should be included is that they are normal wear items that are easily replaced when a timing belt service is being done. How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback?around 350 for all

After changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?

I changed the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger, It seemed to go pretty smooth but since the repair I have been having some problems. There is substantial power loss in every gear I cannot even get any acceleration out of 5th even while going 70 or 75. Also, if I drive a short distance such as 5-10 miles my truck wont turnover until it completely cools back down, but if I drive an hour and stop then It'll crank right back up. Before I realized it was the timing belt I removed the gas tank and checked the fuel pump, now when pumping gas the fuel pump seems presurized so that may have somthing to do with the power loss. Please help if you have any incite on any or all of these problems. After changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?Yeah, sounds like the slack is on the wrong part of the belt, and/or timing marks are off. Just for stop gap measure maybe you can turn your distributer to get it to drive better, but the real answer is to take it apart and see what you screwed up when redoing the belt. After changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?Your timing is off!!!!! Remove the belt and try again or take it to a shop. I have seen this happen to dozens of cars and trucks. Your can gear turned on you while installing the belt. GOOD LUCKAfter changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?Common mistake is to give slack on wrong side of belt. Or two had it slipped prior to changing, and did you align bottom end and top end to top dead center. Be careful till you get it right you could damage a valve. I hate belts. The new ones use a chain, but with a aluminum block, the chain will outlast the cylinders. After changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?Since you actually changed the timing belt I would start there. If you got the timing off on the belt more than a few teeth you could notice a substantial powerloss. You need to go and check to make sure your belt is in time. This usually starts with putting cylinder #1 at top dead center and aligning marks on the cam somewhere on the housing. After changing the timing belt in my 1997 Ford Ranger there is substantial power loss, how can I fix it?As others have already posted, YOU MIS-TIMED THE ENGINE. ANY time you have a new issue directly after a %26quot;repair%26quot;, ALWAYS %26quot;go back%26quot; to where you were before, to find what you did wrong.

You are looking at about 2 hours labour at between 40 and 50 per hour depending on what the garage you go to charges, and about 20 for the part so you should be paying in the region of 100 - 130 IMO

That's for you standard petrol, bit more expensive if its a diesel or maybe a bit more for a bigger size petrol engine.

How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?

I have a 89 Chrysler Lebaron that I am going to change out the timing belt. I have changed many timing chains on 350 chevy's before, but this will be my first belt on a 4 cylinder. Are there line up notches or what? How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?Get a manual for this first thing. It will make it so much easier. This is not a close tolerance engine so no worries. I love doing these usually about two to three hours with no lift. When you get the timing belt cover off. You will see two lines on the cam gear. They are designed to line up to the flat part of the valve cover/ head. The crank gear is also marked it will line up easy. When you see you will understand. If the belt is not broken and just doing for maint. I would mark the belt and gears. Then count the teeth at the marks and put marks on the new belt. That way you know you have the right belt. It will have the same number of teeth. Line every thing up before you pull the old belt off. Mark the top of the cam. I usually use the small bottles of scrath repair paint. But finger nail polish will work. White or red is best. Mark one tooth on the cam and belt. Mark one tooth on the balancer shaft and belt. Do the same for the crank. Remove the old belt. Mark the top mark cam or c. Put a line in same spot on new belt make sure its a tooth. Cound the lines to the balancer shaft mark. Do the same to the new belt mark it. After you mark the crank line count the rest of the teeth to the cam. New belt will be the same or its wrong. I do this when the marks are hard to see or its a close tolerace engine. You cannot mess up with this process. The new belt will have all the marks just line it to the gears. You are done. Do not tightend the timing belt to much or it will whine. Sometimes the whine will go away when the belt stretches. If you have more questions let me know. How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?do yourself a favor and buy a manual for it and it will tell what marks to line upHow do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?its a pretty easy one as far as belts go you will ned to take the plastic covers off and unbolt the pasenger side motor mount fromt he chasis

take the crank pully off.. there willbe a mark.. usually a dot on it.. then on the intermediate gear that runs the distributer there willbe a mark also.. afterryou get those lined up take the distributer cap off and verify its pointing correctly

On the top end if its a N/A car there willbe a hole in the upper pully that will line up witht he rubber nub sticking up thru the valve cover line it up there

be sure you do not overtighten the belt they have a tendancy to break if overtightened

also rememebr to manually spin the engine twice to make sure the dots stay lined up and stays at lined up.. Its a non interference engine so there is no worry of accedental damageHow do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron? If I'm not mistaken that is a V-6 side winder in there, with double overhead cam? It's not an easy job, get a book on it at autozone for 12 bucks, you not only have to line up both cams, and the crank, the water pump is run off of it too, I used every trick I know and it was a bear, no room, no access, not enough hands, it's not like a chevy at all. The serpentine belt goes around it all and all the pulleys have splines on them. Good luck. How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?Yes, if it is a signle cam than it will be a notch on the pulley that lines up with the notch on the block, if it is dual than the notches on the cams line up with eatchother, dont forget to line up the notches on the oil pump and cranshaft also..

    Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...big transmission leak..help!!?

My automatic 2003 Dodge SX 2.0 has reached 60,000 miles 2 weeks ago, so I went to change the timing belt, the water pump, and did a seasonal check up and they told me everything was fine. It cost me around $550 for all of it.

Between then and now (2 weeks later), I drove the car like 4-5 times. Yesterday when I was driving, something weird happened when I was driving, felt like the transmission got stuck in gear or something and the RPM did a strange thing. Then some smoke came from the front of my car. I drove 5 more min to park it, then after I parked I saw a whole like of oil trail following my car. This morning when I woke up, there is a big puddle of what seems like transmission oil under my car.

What can cause this?? Is this in any way related to the timing belt changed 2 weeks ago? I already paid $550!! Or am I just unlucky and my car just needs another fix. If so...any ideas how much it would cost??Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...big transmission leak..help!!?a transmission cooler line might have come off.Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...big transmission leak..help!!?Honestly, what they did should have nothing to do with your transmission. Infact, what they did is on the complete other side. Get it towed to the shop and have them look at it. DO NOT drive it, the more you drive it, the more you chance needing a new transmission. You could have just blow the gasket for the pan. Just whatever you do, DO NOT drive your car!Changed timing belt....now 2 weeks later...big transmission leak..help!!?nope motor in front of transmission timing in front of motor about three foot away from transmission couldnt even touch one from the other just another problem you have is allChanged timing belt....now 2 weeks later...big transmission leak..help!!?I suspect the shop damaged your tranny pan, gasket, or lines when they raised your vehicle to do the belt. It would be good to get an independent inspection before returning to the first shop!

How to change a timing belt in a maxima ''91''?

This is a complicated procedure and would require specialty tools. if you have the time and tools needed to do the job my first suggestion would to purchase a repair manual. Most repair manuals can tell you what tools will be needed to complete the job. Then all you do is follow directions.(in the manual of course)How to change a timing belt in a maxima ''91''?You will need some good tools and the repair manual for the car. Make sure you put the right amount of tension on the belt, because to tight is just as bad as to loose.

All anyone needs are the right tools. Particularly a strong air impact wrench (1000 lbs.ft) to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and a crankshaft pulley holder to spin the belt until the pulleys are aligned appropriately to Top Dead Center.

Aside from removing other components out of the way and ensuring all the bolts are tightened back to their specified torque specifications, the rest is relatively very easy.

    Good luck!

How hard is it to change your own timing belt in a 2005 chevy aveo?

Very hard. It can be done, but you are going to need the proper tools, a set of lifts (jack and jack stands don't work well), and a transmission jjack and some pieces of wood,

some WD-40, some old rags, and a lot of time (a whole weekend.), a buddy to help,a shop manuel on how to do it, and the timing belt.

In most newer cars, trucks, and SUV's, an engine mount has to be removed , the engine jacked up a little, and pullys removed with a special pulley pulling tool to get the belt off,

then the belt has to be put back on in reverse order as it came off, with the proper tension.

My husband spent 11 hours changing one on our car recently and spent over $200 on tools, manuel, and part combined.

It would have cost a lot less to have the local shop do it.How hard is it to change your own timing belt in a 2005 chevy aveo?Looking at the Chilton repair literature it looks likes a typical timing belt replacement: remove accessory belts, pulleys, timing belt covers, etc.

The only unusual thing is the instructions on how to align the water pump: %26quot;Using tool J-42492-A, turn the water pump until the adjuster arm pointer of the timing belt tensioner is aligned with the pointer on the tensioner bracket.%26quot; I don't know what that special tool is or if something like a pair of pliers would work too.

The Chevy Aveo 1.6L is an interference engine which means the engine will be damaged if the belt breaks with the engine running or if the camshaft and cranshaft pulleys aren't aligned correctly during belt replacement.

I just bought a 03 Elentra and I want to know at how many miles I should replace the timing belt and also how often should I do a tranny flush? How many miles should you go before changing the timing belt on a hyundai?Probably 100k, but check in the manual. I'd say change the tranny fluid now and don't worry about it for another 60k.How many miles should you go before changing the timing belt on a hyundai? Most cars are 100K for the timing belt, check your handbook service schedule, the auto generally depends on how much city/country driving or if you tow and if you country is stinking hot . I have owned 2 vehicles with the so called low/no maintenance auto's and both expired prematurely, this was following the recommended maintenance periods. I now follow the %26quot; severe condition %26quot; maintenance routine for the auto and haven't had a problem in 320k of hot ( 43 deg C ) driving. Best bet is to get it done at 40K as the price of a transmission flush is quite small when compared to rebuild through lack of maintenance. Just make sure they do a full fluid change including the torque converter as well as clean/replace the strainer/filter, some service centres only change part of the oil. Best to get it done, maintenance is better and cheaper than lack there of.How many miles should you go before changing the timing belt on a hyundai? The interval for timing belts is 60k for Hyundai. You do not have to change your fluids every 2 years either. This is a scam to get your money because the newer cars are almost maintenance free. The dealers tell you this so they can make money off you because repairs under warranty do not pay that much. Keep an eye on your fluids and change every 5 years or when the color of the fluid becomes dark. The interval for the transmission fluid is 100k on Hyundai.

How many miles should you go before changing the timing belt on a hyundai? The answer can probably be found in your owners manual. The timing belt change interval is different for every car. It was 90k miles on my last car. It is 60k miles on my current car. Definitely don't wait to long because the belt can snap, which will destroy your motor. How many miles should you go before changing the timing belt on a hyundai?you should change the timming belt every 100,000km and do a tranny flush every 2 years. All fluids, coolant, brake, power steering all should be done every 2 years. Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?

I have a Hyundai Elantra 2000 with 59K miles on it. It is running fine but the owners manual says that I should change the timing belt. Hyundai wants $650 for the timing belt so I went to a local Goodyear. They say that It will cost like $500 but when you throw in the suggested change of the water pump and new hoses and a coolent system flush it comes to over $1000 bucks. I trust this goodyear dealer they have done work for me before but my question is is it really worth it for a car worth about $3K? How long can I realistcly expect the timing belt, hoses and water pump to last?Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?it is recomended but long as you don't drive it hard you may get up to 90 thousand miles with it be easy with it good luckDoes a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?do not go to dealer it will cost about $

Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles? It SHOULD be changed if the manufacturer specifies. However,

if you go another 5 thousand miles, it wont break, so shop around. MY favorite mechanic quoted me a price of $275.

My dealer wanted $700. for the same work. I think you are being overcharged.

Water pumps can go bad at 30K or 100K, (any time) so it's best to change it out when work is ALREADY being done in the area.Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?YOU COULD WAIT TILL IT GOES OUT BUT I WOULDNOT CHANCE. IT IF YOU DO WAIT THE REPAIR BILL WILL BE IN THE 3-4 THOUSAND DOLLAR RANGE. THE REASON THEY RECOMMEND THAT IT BE CHANGED AT THAT TIME IS WHEN THE TIMING BELT BREAKS IT WILL CAUSE THE VALVES TO SLAM INTO THE TOPS OF THE PISTONS AND BEND ALL THE INTAKE AND EXAUST VALVES AND POSSIBLY CRACK THE PISTONS SO YOU CAN PAY THEM NOW OR REALLY PAY THEM LATER.Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles? You should do what the owners manual says. If the belt breaks, all of you valves in the engine will bend and you'll need a new engine. That will be a lot more expensive. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles? In my computer it says to replace the belt at 60K also. These are Korean Cars. Their quality isn't as good as the Japanese cars. That is why you need to replace them sooner than most. This is not a interference engine so if it does break it will not harm your engine like some cars.

A realistic price that I charge for my shop is 180 in labor 50 for the belt. It would cost you 230 bucks if I did it minimum. To do all belts, waterpump it will be 210 in labor, and 65 for the pump and 80 for belts. Your total would be 355 plus coolant and taxes.

If you come to Topeka Kansas I'll come to you to replace it for a 35 dollar service call.

ToddDoes a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?Do you really need to change the oil every 3000 miles just because they say so??Does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?naaaaaaaaaaaa! feeling lucky PUNK!

How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?

I have a 1999 Honda Civic and I have 150,000 miles on it. I have not changed the timing belt yet. When is it recommended to change it. Do you think I am pushing my luck by waiting until the summer to do it. My car runs like the day I bought it, perfect. I am not having any problems but someone was talking about it the other day and that got me thinking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank youHow many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?Timing belts won't slip, they will break. If you were lucky, your engine will be among those with non interference engines. This means that if the belt breaks, the belt will simply need replacement.

Your Civic has an interference engine. This basically means that the valves go down further than the piston goes up. If the belt/chain breaks, a piston or two will repeatedly punch the valves. In other words, you will need a new engine.

If your looking for an excuse to get a new car, so be it. Otherwise, your skating on thin ice. You might get 50,000 miles, you might get 5 miles. Chances are, that 10 year old rubber is getting pretty hard and cracked. It's just a matter of time and miles before it will break. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?Wow - you're way over due - 60,000 miles is the norm.

Your timing belt will NOT give you any symptoms what so ever - it will simply strip or break and leave you stranded, usually 10 miles from the nearest town in either direction on a desolate road with no cell signal. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?You are pushing it with that maney miles on it. I always change it at 50,000 miles. How many miles do you need to drive before you need to replace a timing belt.?you are pushing it. But look at the belt and see if it shows ANY signs of wear or fraying. If it does, have it towed.

If it breaks you probably destroy your engine.

When you change it, change the tensioner and the water pump at the same time.

Depends on car and engine, but usual numbers are 60k to 90k miles.

Timing belt malfunction or changing time indication?

    toyota tercel 1995 120 k auto

timing belt and pump done last time on 60 k .

so what are symptoms or indication of a bad or going to be bad timing belt.

how it feels, i means what happen out of norm when timing belt start going faultyTiming belt malfunction or changing time indication?Good question but you aren't going to get any symptoms of a timing belt going bad. It is either good or bad, there is no in betweens. If it's been 60k since the last replacement, sounds like a good time to do it before you ruin your engine by bending a valve.Timing belt malfunction or changing time indication? If your timing belt gets stretched then it could jump a tooth on the sprockets. The car would spit, sputter, backfire, lack power and just plain run poorly. If it jumps too far it could result in a valve being pushed into a piston - a very bad thing. You'd hear a bang and clunking and the motor would self destruct. Best to follow manufacturers instruction on timing to change it out. Cheap insurance.
