How much money does it cost to change a timing belt for a mercades benz?

Is this supposed to be a trick question?

First of all, always mention what year and model you have.

Secondly, and more importantly, no Benz vehicle, gasoline nor diesel, uses a timing belt. All Mercedes engines use a timing chain. How much money does it cost to change a timing belt for a mercades benz? The dealer or somewhere else?

The dealer will be in the $800.00 dollar range, a reputable mechanic @ 500.

I lost a very well loved vehicle because I went the cheap route. How much money does it cost to change a timing belt for a mercades benz? It's free. How often should I change my timing belt? 92 Accord?

I have a 1992 Honda Accord with 210,000 miles on it. (I know, that's ALOT.) I haven't changed the timing belt since I bought it at 165,000 miles. What else should I get done along with the timing belt and what's a reasonable price range to pay a mechanic to get all this done? How often should I change my timing belt? 92 Accord?a cars timing belt should be changed every 90,000 to 100,000 miles. if you have not done yet you should get the tranny fluid and filter changed, wires, plugs, cap and rotor, oil, and check the accsessory belts for wear.

basicly you should get a good tune up done. this is all pretty easy to do your self but if you cannot. this would probably be a 300.00 dollar job around me(upstate NY area) get a haynes book from your local parts store and it will help you do it your self. but if you dont know alot about cars leave the timing belt to the pros. How often should I change my timing belt? 92 Accord?let say $300.00.including the water pump.(once the mechanic has the system open, change the water pump too)How often should I change my timing belt? 92 Accord?Every 60 - 80,000 miles about $300How often should I change my timing belt? 92 Accord?I'm pretty sure you have a 2.2 litre engine and it should be changed every 100 000 km (not sure in miles). When you do change the belt you should also change the water pump along with the crank, cam, and oil pump seal since they are prone to leak and your half way there already. Theres no sense in doing the job twice. I dont know the maintenance history of your vehicles but with that many miles though might want to think of doing a tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter etc.). Price for the timing belt %26amp; water pump should run you about $600.00 and tune up could run you about $350.00.

How do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?

when my car takes off it is slow once it gets going however it is fine unless you make lots of turns and stops then tends to die on me. I had a check engine light and said viable cam timing overreatered thiHow do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?More than likely you have a problem with the variable cam timing system, not advancing cam timing when you accelerate. The Zetec DOES have variable timing, that is why there is a big VCT logo stamped on the valve cover, the posts below are untrue. I would suggest having it looked at by a professional. This engine requires special timing procedures, there are no cam sprocket keyways or marks, a special tool is inserted in the end of the cams and another tool is screwed into the side of the block to time crankshaft to correct position. How do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?Most likely its a hard rubber belt, and from what you said, I think it broke, which is probably why you can't find it. It goes around the wheels, usually in the front of the engine, it has to turn the crank, which is connected to your main engine, and the alternater, which supplies the electrical power to the plugs, among other things, and you might have an Air Conditioner, so there might be two wheels, maybe even three. If it is indeed a timing belt, then that might be made of metal, but I've seen them made of rubber. If you have all the meters you can fix it, but if you don't, just have a mechanic come take a look at it.How do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?Since I don't believe the Mazda/Zetec 4 cyl has variable cam timing it sounds like you have the SVT with the 2.5 V-6. That thing is quite an experience to service. As long as it is still running the timing belt is NOT broken, however it may be on it's way out, and you do NOT want that to let go altogether. If the belt has slipped a tooth or two it will make a dog out of it. And it may fool the ECM into thinking it's it's a problem with the variable as it detects an out of expected range condition. I would consult a dealer, or at least buy a manual that covers this model specifically. And there is special tools needed to set the timing properly. How do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?There is Variable Cam timing on all 2.0 DOHC's made after 1997 (if the car was a 1998 model)

If you have a MIL with that code, I'd recommend what yugie says 100% and bring it to a shop (preferably ones like a dealer or who ain't afraid of those motors as some independants are.. at least in my area) Also there are special tools as he said and even those familiar with the engine have problems at times (as it requires removing a motor mount and supporting the engine with a holding fixture)

You could have belt problems, but I've seen more problems causing codes from lack of oil changes casuing blockages and finally seezing of the VCT..

get it researched and get it done right...How do you change the timing belt on Ford Couture 1998?Well, it's not variable cam timing exactly...it's a hydraulic damper on the 2nd cam. It's a real pain. You should take it to the ford dealership and let them fix it as they have all of the special tools required. good luck.

Do i need any special tools that the average backyard mechanic might not have? How hard is it to change the timing belt on a 93 Saturn?first purchase a shop manual for this car as there several procedures that Saturn uses that are different from most everyone else. sl/sc engines do not have timing belts they are chain driven[granted it is not much more than a bicycle chain] but if it breaks the cyl. head will have to come off for valve replacement and guide repairs both twin cam and single cam engines are interference fit [valves collide with pistons] if the timing cover is to be removed it is sealed with R.T.V.sealant and surfaces must be chemically clean upon reassembly to prevent oil leakage. there is a tool available to align the geroter type oil pump and should be obtained as this part of the job with engine in the car can be tricky. #[SA9104E] if chain is to be replaced you must also install new tensioner and guide rails as they will be worn out or broken up. NOTE rebuilt sl engines [single cam] are rather inexpensive from Saturn if your body and interior are still in good shape you may be money ahead to replace the engine especially if you know that valves are bent. this is an awkward engine to remove[sub-frame comes out with engine and trans] and should only be done on a lift. hope i helped and use caution jacking and blocking,[ you can only be dead once.] and good luck

How often do i need to change the timing belt and serpentine belt on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica?

It currently has 43000 miles and I bought it used in May of this year. How often do i need to change the timing belt and serpentine belt on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica?dealer recommendations are 50,000 for both belts serpentine you can get away with timing belt you always want to do before it breaks (around fifty thousand miles or so ) because if it brakes you are looking at bent valves and head problems which would be alot more expensive than changing the belt as a preventative maintenance itemHow often do i need to change the timing belt and serpentine belt on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica? The serpentine belt runs power steering air conditioner compressor water pump and probably some thing els I'm forgeting. It should be inspected every time you change the oil. If it looks cracked it should be replaced. With 43000 miles I would replace the belt. The timing belt is another story. It should last a very long time. At least 100,000 miles. If you are not a mechanic I don't recomend doing this your self. But most manufactuers do not recomend a timing belt change untill after 100,000 miles.

My husband is going to attempt this on Saturday with the supervision of a mechanic, but my husband is novice himself. • How long does it take to change a timing belt on an Oldsmobile Cutlass?

I don't know how many miles or the exact year. I think it's early to mid 1990's. It's my boyfriend's car and he's thinking of changing it on its own. I just want to know how long that might take. How long does it take to change a timing belt on an Oldsmobile Cutlass?I own a shop, and build many engines. A good experienced mechanic will take about six - eight hours. Some engines have belts, while others have chains, it just depends on which engine you are talking about. I know I may get some flack about how long it takes, and what the book calls for, but If a person does one, then one must consider the tool thing. How is he going to remove the damper from the crankshaft? Sometimes they will break, even using the correct gear puller on them. Some have a tensioner that must be replaced in them, so this job can turn into a nightmare for a backyard mechanic sometimes. Tell your BF to go purchase a %26quot;Haynes Repair Manual%26quot; from the parts store %26quot;before%26quot; he tries to tackle the job, or he may end up with a blown engine on his hands.

    Part 2:

Many people on here over look the fact; the answers thing is world wide, and they are assuming you are in the USA. Like I said it depends on the engine as to the chain, or belt thing. The chains use a different type of tensioner. It has what is known as a wear strip on the tensioner, and if this is worn it will have to be replaced. It's not worth getting in a fight with your BF over %26quot;its a belt, or its a chain%26quot;! If it's his car, then let him work on it, and don't worry about %26quot;how long%26quot; it will take to do the job because; once he gets started on it, he will see it's a job he doesn't need to do, and that will be the end of that. Sounds like he wants to be a mechanic, and what better way for him to get started? Giving your BF some space may do more for your relationship than he will for the car. I think once he see's what he is getting in to, he will forget about changing it. One can love a puppy, but hold it too hard, and squeeze it to death.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!How long does it take to change a timing belt on an Oldsmobile Cutlass?as long as the mechanic feels it takes. How long does it take to change a timing belt on an Oldsmobile Cutlass? How experienced is your boy friend with mechanics? It is a six hour job if you know what you are doing. First thing to do before he starts tearing into the car is to find true top center on the number one cylinder. That is the compression stroke of the cylinder. Once that is established you will be able to remove the radiator and the water pump and hoses. Remove the valve cover where the number 1 cylinder is and watch the valve spring open and close on the number 1 cylinder. Make certain that it is the intake valve not the exhaust valve. Remove the timing cover and look at the posistion of the dot on the large gear. That is the gear on the top. Double check that it is on the compression stroke of the number 1 cylinder.

Line up the two dots on the new timing chain in the middle facing each other on the gears. Rotate the engine by hand until the dot on the large gear is at the very top in alignment with the lower gear. That is actual top dead center on the number 1 cylinder. Double check your work. Rotate the engine once again and watch the intake valve open then close. The dot on the large gear should be in alignment in the middle with the dots facing each other. After that rotate the engine until the dot is at the exact top in alignment with the lower dot. Replace the timing cover and accessories. Why change it?

This isn't really a job that I would tackle in my driveway. It would take 4 or 5 hours if you are familiar with changing timing chains. On this particular engine, the oil filter adapter housing/pressure regulator is bolted to the side of the front cover in front of the R/S inner tripod joint. You must remove the R/S axle to access it.

Thank you...How do i change a timing belt on a 2004 huyndai sonata?I don't think you're looking at the timing belt.

The belt you see from the outside is the serpentine belt, which powers all the accessories (water pump, alternator, power steering, air conditioner). Look somewhere in the engine bay for a routing diagram... one part will have an arrow showing how to rotate it out for the tensioner.

    It's usually just a 13 or 15mm socket you'd use.

The timing belt is inside the engine, which powers the camshafts. Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?

I've never had a vehicle long enough to need a belt, so I don't know how reliable a timing belt is, but I have 89k on it and plan on doing a wp at the same time; should I safely be able to take it to 90k without a problem? I know that the recommended interval for this engine is 90k, but I believe it is an interference engine. Opinions? Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?Change the belt! Particularly since it is an interference engine. Timing belts are relatively durable, but unlike timing chains, they were not designed to last the entire life of your car. Belts warp and tear over time.

I had a timing belt go out on my previous car (17 year old Toyota with over 165k on the odometer at the time). Luckily it was a free-wheeling (non-interference) engine and there was no valve damage. However, I was stranded on the side of the road, had to pay for towing, and wasn't able to make it to work that day because of it. If the belt is expected to last 90,000 miles, I would personally probably change it every 85,000 just to be safe. You wouldn't run a car on almost-bald tires, would you?

Also, change the water pump at the same time. Might as well since you will be in there anyway.

Better safe than sorry, I always say. I find Toyotas to be extremely reliable, but even the most reliable engines will fail if not properly maintained and cared for. 1,000 miles may not make much of a difference, but all it takes is a stroke of bad luck to screw up a perfectly good engine. No sense in procrastinating.

Best of luck. Take care of that truck and it will take care of you. There's no telling how long it will last you if you treat it right. Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?Do what the dealer says--if it says 90--its 90---89 is a thousand off--one crummy month--do it and stop playing around. Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?Recommendation? The timing chain on my car is supposed to be changed every 150,000 miles... I'm at ~305,500 on the original chain. Of course I inspect it every year when I adjust the valves, but it's still in great shape. Check the belt to make sure it's not loose, cracking, or lost its rubbery feel. If it seems okay, go ahead and wait till 90k miles if that's what's recommended. Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?ive driven cars 50k past their recomended belt change....of course i dident care about those cars,my advice is change itIs there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?If it was me, I would just go ahead and change it at 89k. I would kick myself in the *** if I decided to hold off and the belt broke. Broken timing belt=sending the pistons up into the valves=very bad news and lots of money for repairs. This is just my humble opinion, do what you and your wallet allows you too.Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?Any time you have this kind of decision to make ask what is your risk vs reward

    Risk = broken timing belt

Reward = one month of time

Whether you get it at 89K or 90K miles, are you going to hold it for another 90K? If not then you'll only do one change so then then just get it now.

    ===

My Audi is recommended for 90K. But everybody is screaming about timing belts breaking as low as 70K. So I had it change at 60K miles. I figure I would have to do it sooner or later, and I don't plan on holding the car till 120K (another 60K). So either way I would only do 1 change so why risk riding it for so long?

    ===

Besides how dumb are you going to feel if the belt broke so close to your change period (especially after asking yourself this question)?

Keep the paper work. My brother's timing belt broke few hundred mile out because the %26quot;pro%26quot; made it too tight.

Good Luck.Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?I'm not big up on cars now a days but i do own a 1974 Chevy Nova. When I bought it I dug straight in to the engine to find out anything that may have looked strange. I didn't notice any Thing until about the 5th time i drove it when i smelt something strange. I pulled over and popped the hood to find MY timing chain unwrapped and gnarled around the alternator. This was not a good thing. It was easily replaceable. Although it is almost 35 years old I new right when I got it to replace the belts for ever thing. What I think would be a helpful bit of information is how long you personally have had this vehicle. Oh and to answer your question. Yes you should change your timing belt. In my past I find that if I ask questions about something (especially cars) its more than likely that it is a yes :) besides it never hurts to replace something. Is there any reason to change a timing belt on my 01 Tacoma 3.4 at 89k to be safe, or wait until 90k?The recommended mileage has a safety factor build in so you are very safe going to 90K, I would not go too much over that.

  • How do I change the timing belt on my 1990 Honda Civic?

Any experts? I'm good with cars but, I have never changed a timing belt?

Can you explain in detail how to do it?

thanksHow do I change the timing belt on my 1990 Honda Civic?1) get some 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, sockets and wrenches. and a 1/16%26quot; allen wrench, small bench vice.

    2) disconnect battery + and tape a rag on it.

2.1) remove power steering pump and set aside. this can usually be done without disconnecting lines.

    2.2) remove alternator.

    3) turn engine with socket on crank (17mm or 19mm) until timing marks are t.d.c.

    4) remove timing cover (10mm socket) needed for this should be 8 or 10 small bolts.

    5) dont forget the 2 at the oil pan connection below (12mm socket)remove crank pulleys (17mm socket)

    6) once covers are off locate tensioner and insert 1/16%26quot; allen wrench in hole on side of tensioner this will save lots of grief later. and then remove. (12mm socket)

    7) on the valve sprockets there will be a dimple that you line up with a notch on top of cyl head usually at 12:00 position.

    8) remove timing belt.

    9) reverse order to re assemble.

    10) oh darn the allen wrench wont fit because belt is too streched or broken! (no worries, compress in small vise and put allen wrench in make sure that you put it in the correct side or you'll have a problem when you go to remove it after the new belt is on)

    11) just for future reference get yourself a Clymers auto manual. about $20 but worth it.

    12) also i'd replace your water pump while you have it apart because that is a pain to get to.

How do I and what is the best way to change a timing belt in a 94 Ford Escort LX 1.9L.?

I was driving it when it broke. Not sure if I did any other damage internally to the motor but what is the best way to find out after I replace the belt? How do I and what is the best way to change a timing belt in a 94 Ford Escort LX 1.9L.?You can breathe a sigh of relief because your particular car's engine is NOT an interference engine, meaning the valves will NOT touch the pistons if it goes out of time. Anybody who posts, telling you otherwise, is full of S***. Even more good news is that it is also VERY easy to replace on your particular car if you are somewhat skilled. Any place you take it to, should not charge you any more than 3 hours of labour to do the repair. Any more than that, they are ripping you off. The belt itself, is also very inexpensive, even from the Ford dealer. Are you going to attempt to replace it yourself? If so, the sizes for the fasteners are 17mm for the engine mount fasteners, mostly 10mm for the splash guards underneath, as well as the fasteners that secure the hoses up top in the engine compartment,13mm for the belt tensioner bolt, 19mm for the crank pulley, and I think two 11 or 10mm nuts that hold the timing cover. Hope this helps. How do I and what is the best way to change a timing belt in a 94 Ford Escort LX 1.9L.?If it broke while driving, there will be residue under the crank sprocket. You will need to take the pass. side front tire off. Take the serpantine belt pulley off of the crank and then take the cover off to get all of the trash out of the sprocket. Then put it on TDC, then put your cam in time. Then you can put the belt on. Loosen the pulley on the water pump all of the way. When you put the belt on, tighten up the idler on the water pump, but not too tight. It will shorten the life of the belt if it's too tight. If it's too tight the motor will make a whirrr but it won't be damaging. You can get more performance if you advance your cam 1 tooth. Good luck.

How do i know when to change the timing belt?

i have an Acura 3.2 TL, when i bought it, it has 90 000 km on it. Now it has 217 000 km. I never did the timing belt before. Do i have to do it? or did the previous owner already changed it already? How do i know when to change the timing belt?On most overhead cam engines if the belt breaks it will do major damage to the engine because the valves will hit the pistons. Check the owners manuel for the recomended times to change. When in doubt change it anyway, it will be a lot cheaper than a new engine.

If you are mechanically inclined get a repair manuel and change it yourself. Check the timing belt idler for wear, if it goes out it will ruin the belt. On most engines there are other parts that you may want to replace at the same time because of the labor involved in getting to them. (other belts, water pumps, hoses., ect)How do i know when to change the timing belt?Either done or not done... You are do..

Any time from 90,000 and on is Roulette..( changed or not changed)

How would i change a timing belt in a car?

its an old Probe... dodge i think but im not sure. its my sisters and we need to change the belt cause its worn and needs to be changed. her car also stalls while she turns an we dont know what causes itHow would i change a timing belt in a car?Pretty much if you need to ask, it may very easily be beyond your abilities.

With that said, here's my advice.

The Probe was built by Ford between 1988 to 1997. It was a collaboration between Ford and Mazda built on the Mazda GD platform. It shares many parts with the Mazda MX-6. It is also an old car so I understand why you would want to do it yourself instead of paying a mechanic several hundred dollars.

First, get the exact year, make, model, transmission, and engine for this car.

Go to the Auto Zone website. They have an excellent Do It Yourself section. You can have online access to many service manuals for free. You can not download the manuals. However you can print any sections you will need. You must register to access this section. Registration is free. I have never received any SPAM by registering.

You should study your downloaded pages closely before you proceed to see if you are getting in over your head.

    Some additional advice.

A little organization will go a long way.

Get some 1 quart and 1 gallon zip lock bags, generic will do. Get a roll of 2 inch masking tape. Get a sharpie. Every time you remove a part put it and any fasteners and any hardware in a zip lock bag and label it with your sharpie. If the part is too big for a zip lock bag, put only the loose parts in the bag.

Label every electrical connector, vacuum line, fluid line, etc, with masking tape and a sharpie

Most people have access to a digital camera. Before you start take several pictures from different angles of the engine. With each major component you remove take a new set of pictures. These pictures can be very helpful later on if you forget how a part goes back on.How would i change a timing belt in a car?If you need to ask that question on Yahoo answers, then you are not qualified to do it. Also is 146K on a 99 Accord too much? How much will it cost to change a timing belt on a 1999 Honda Accord?$200.How much will it cost to change a timing belt on a 1999 Honda Accord?Avg life of a timing belt is from 60,000-100,000 miles, depending on the car make and model.

Honda's are known to lean more towards the 85,000-90,000 mile mark before they tend to break.

146,000 miles on a Honda? Nah....she's just now breaking in. Routine maintance and a loving owner and she can last you into the 200,000 range without much effort. Seen some Honda's over 300,000.

For her age of 1999 and 146,000...yes...it is high miles for her age. Average person only drives 10,000-13,500 miles per year. Your car has averaged just under 21,000 miles per year.

The Honda 2.3L is an interference engine which means if the timing belt breaks then the engine will be damaged. So do not put off replacing the belt. How much will it cost to change a timing belt on a 1999 Honda Accord? This type of repair here in Washington State may cost as much as $450.00 or more, now, the honda engine has a timig belt and a balance belt.

The Recommended replacement interval for the timing belt on the vehicle you mention is shown on alldata to be 105k and change the waterpump at the same time!

The labor should be about 4.6 -5.0 hrs for both the 4 cylinder engine and the V-6 at between $65.-$85/hr and that is counting on replacing the waterpump which is highly recommended on a honda, as the waterpump is driven by the timing belt and not replacing it, if the waterpump should fail it will also destroy the timing belt.

I cannot quote parts prices as they vary so much from state to state but what I can say is DO NOT EVER USE AFTERMARKET PARTS IN A HONDA IN THIS REPAIR AREA ALL PARTS ARE NOT THE SAME hondas are very pickey and work much better with factory parts as factory parts are exactly right. How much will it cost to change a timing belt on a 1999 Honda Accord?it is going to be between $200 and $400. I had to put a new water pump in my Kia, and I ended up messing up the timing, so I had to tow it to the dealer, and just to install the belt they charged me $245 I think, and then tried to sell me on about another $1500 in repairs I didn't need. I am a pretty good mechanic, so I didn't buy any of their bull crap. I would suggest, if possible, you try to do it yourself. You will need a book to set the engine timing, and you will have to set the ignition timing. But it took me about 3 hours to do it, and I never done it before. I had the timing almost on, but it just wouldn't start. Do you have to remove the engine to change a timing belt on a 2000 toyota tacoma?

I was told that Tocoma timing belts had to be changed around 90k before they broke, damaging the engine. Is this even true? And how much trouble is it to do it yourself given mechanic experience?Do you have to remove the engine to change a timing belt on a 2000 toyota tacoma?DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. Seriously, I think your Tocoma should have the 3.4 liter V6, which I have in my 2002 4Runner. Its a big production to do it. I had it done at the dealer. Good plan, right? Guess what - After driving about 150 miles, it fell off! They didn't tighten the crank shaft properly (those were the words of the mechanic I took it too near where it died, as well as the dealer, after they checked it out). Well, too bad for the dealer, they had to come pick it up (140 miles door to door each way for them) and then they did have to yank the engine out to fix the mess.

Its an expensive service at the dealer (about $500, if I remember correctly), but you can probably get your local mechanic to do it for less.Do you have to remove the engine to change a timing belt on a 2000 toyota tacoma?I have changed the timing belt on a 91 Toyota Camry, we didn't have to remove the engine but it was a big mess. You can order or buy the book at parts stores such as O'Reiley's or AutoZone, the book will tell you.

If you have the maintenence book, it's step by step. I had never changed one before, but I did it with the book, and a little help from family members. I think it is true about damaging the engine. IF you can't afford the labor for the fix (which IS expensive), buy the book for $15 and do it yourself :)

How much should I pay for a timing belt change for a 2003 audi A4?

I have an Audi a4 with 57K miles, and it is due for 60K service. The dealer asks for $800, and it doesn't include timing belt.

My question is how much should I pay for replacing timing belt? and is $800 a fair price to charge for 60k service?

What was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza?

This is a major maintenance I got to do and I'd like more information on it.

How important is it to do it early, versus being 10k to 30k over recommended mileage?

Was it fixed right away or did it need adjustments afterwards?

How did the car feel with the new timing belt?

Did you select a particular brand of a timing belt?

What other repairs did you do simultaneously to cut down on cost?

That should keep you busy for a hot minute dear answerer! What was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza?Depending on the climate that the car is driven in , I would say that the timing belt should be replaced no later than 90,000 miles. This is to prevent having a timing belt failure that could cause more damage... Especially on a 2.5 DOHC engine, I believe that those are considered %26quot;interference%26quot; engines and if the belt brakes during running, you will most likely bend several valves and that requires cylinder head repair...

There is a possibility that the water pump is driven by the timing belt and if so the labor would be less to replace the pump at the same time as the timing belt as compared to doing it at a different date by itself...

As far as adjustments, the timing belt has a self adjust feature and should not require adjustment..

I always use Gates belts, Just my preference based on my experience..What was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza?Sincere thanks to all who gave advice,

    I changed it at 84K - mechanic's comment %26quot;it was old, good time to change it.%26quot;

Cost 421 USD for belt, waterpump and labor.

Estimates I had for just the timing belt: dealer 450, AXP 300, Another Mech 550.

What was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza? For Subarus, the maintenance schedule recommends replacing the timing belt at 105,000 miles.

This is not something to skimp on. Is it going to fail exactly at 105k? Not likely. Is it worth risking your engine? Your call. If the timing belt breaks, you will be looking at new cylinder heads and a engine rebuild. Your car isn't going to feel any different with a new timing belt, unless your timing happened to be off beforehand. This is just a wear item that needs to be replaced. There's no %26quot;adjustments%26quot; unless you screw up the timing. There's really no benefit to going to anything other than the OEM belt, unless you just like the peace of mind a kevlar belt might give you. You'll also want to replace the water pump, the oil pump, timing belt tensioner, and idler pulleys while you're in there.

I don't consider this the easiest task for the average shadetree mechanic, so depending on your skill level, you might want to consider going to a mechanic for this particular maintenance. What was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza? It is very important to have the timing belt changed. If it breaks while driving it could damage your engine. Take it to the dealer they will do it right. Follow that maintenance schedule in your manual that is all you need to do. Subaru will warranty the parts for 1 year. If within the one year that car is damaged due to say a faulty part that was installed during a service Subaru covers that. No other garage will do thatWhat was your experiense with timing belt change for Subaru Impreza?Timing belt replacement is recommended for cars with 60K miles (for 1997 and older cars) ...or at 90K miles for 1998 cars and newer) When a timing belt breaks, your engine stops. That is why it should be done before that risk occurs.

  • How bad is it to change the timing belt on a 1999 hyundai accent?

1999 hyundai accent. 1.5 L. I realize its a big job no matter what. Im wondering how bad? Like do you deep to pull the motor? Or perhaps the front clip? Or maybe the passenger side fender. Im sure i can do the belt job. Just dont want to do more work than needed, like I dont want to fight with it all day just to find out I needed to pull the motor in the beginning. Thanks in advanceHow bad is it to change the timing belt on a 1999 hyundai accent? You don't really have to pull the engine out. It is a SOHC engine and it doesn't look that bad. It is a perfect engine to start with as a beginner. I started like everybody from scratch and now I know more than back then. I would advise you to either buy a technical manual for this car or get someone to supervise you (just in case) otherwise, should something come up you might be in for the whole day if not longer. The timing belt is located on the pass side towards the right front wheel. You have a lot of component to remove before you get to it including the engine mount. To remove the mount you have to somehow suspend the engine or support it on a jack (do not put the jack on the oil pan, find a solid point to support the power train). Also, it is important to mark the belt and line - up the top with the bottom of the engine. You have to find the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys. Lining-up the engine has to start from TDC point.

Overhaul, not an easy job but at the same token its something that could be accomplished (with a little supervision).

Good luck and have fun.How bad is it to change the timing belt on a 1999 hyundai accent?Replacing the belt is no more difficult then on most cars. Now, getting at the thing, that's the fun part. All the belts and brackets have to come off the front of the engine and the balancer has to be removed. Then you have to support the front of the engine (passenger side) and remove the motor mount. Get a Haynes manual. It will give you some idea of what your up against. I would also recommend you replace the water pump and the idler pulleys while your in there. Once you start to dig in you will understand why I say that. You don't want to have to do that job in between belt replacements.

Good LuckHow bad is it to change the timing belt on a 1999 hyundai accent?timing belt is no easy matter, its a 3 hour job atleast for a well tuned mechanic. get a mechanic to do it for you. one **** up and your done. i know i did this to my eclipse.

Can anyone tell me how to change a timing belt?

My '93 chevy 1500 need a new timing kit its real loose and i got no power. How would i change it and up my power. thxCan anyone tell me how to change a timing belt?Unless you ever worked on a car before take to chevy, it should cost around 500-850 parts and labor, very hard job to explain and harder to do, even us vets hate doing them, you have to make sure you have motor timed correctly before you remove anything also, you need a few special tools, its not something you could just do at home on a first time, i would take it in. Now im not sure if that motor has a belt or chain to check simply look under hood a chain willl be sealed and oil cooled, a belt will be external and just have a plastic cover over it on outside of block you can usally peek inside and see belt, if you hear it slapping the top of timing cover then its past its time. Can anyone tell me how to change a timing belt?bring it to a ase mechanicCan anyone tell me how to change a timing belt?Yes, but you first have to have a vehicle that uses a timing belt.If you have a timing belt in that engine you have some serious issues. That engine does not use a timing belt. You obviously need to take your vehicle to someone that knows what they are doing. Can anyone tell me how to change a timing belt?Do you mean serpentine belt? You will have to loosen the alternator, remove the belt, install the new one, brace a crow bar against the alternator until the belt is tight, tighten bolts. Then check your timing and readjust if necessary.

How do you know its time to change a timing belt on a suzuki forenza 2006?

how do you know its time to change a timing belt on a 2006 Suzuki forenza with 34 miles on it???? What are the signs that its time for a new timing beltHow do you know its time to change a timing belt on a suzuki forenza 2006?There are no warning signs. Just follow this advice from Suzuki:

The Suzuki Forenza Maintenance Schedule suggests inspecting it at 30,000 mile intervals and replacing it at 60,000 mile intervals.

This car has an interference engine. That means that if the timing belt breaks the engine will suffer severe internal damage and will likely have to be replaced. Replacing the timing belt is rather expensive, but doing so may save you an engine.....

You are not only supposed to check it at 30,000, but it may need to be adjusted. The belt can get loose after it has stretched and it needs to be tightened back up.How do you know its time to change a timing belt on a suzuki forenza 2006?It needs to be looked at 30,000 miles and replace at 60,000 miles. Your other belt that runs the fan,AC,and other things should be replace at the same time as they have to take it off to replace the timing belt and could save your some labor costs. Cracked, chiped,or some loose treads are a good sign but not always. A good mechic can tell you if its is time and you are looking at a few hundred bucks to have it done. If you have only 34 miles on your car for a 06 then you got a good deal then. How do you know its time to change a timing belt on a suzuki forenza 2006?There are no signs. It just goes in a second. I'm pretty sure you have an 'interference' type engine. Most people do. That means when the timing belt fails, the engine will have major damage and may need replacement.

Every car owner lives with this so don't get too excited. Look in your car manual and be sure the timing belt is replaced exactly at the mileage stated. Not sooner and not later. Also have the water pump and belts replaced at the same time. That's done because they need replacement around the same time as the timing belt and it's cheaper to get the extras done while they have things apart. How do you know its time to change a timing belt on a suzuki forenza 2006?Check your owners manual. Sometimes a busted timing belt can damage valves. My 03 neon is 84 months or around 100,000 miles. 30,000 is not right for any car. That's way too soon.
