  • After how many miles should you change a timing belt on a toyota?

I want to get a 2003 toyota celica. It has 63800..is the timing belt okay?the owner has nver had problems with itAfter how many miles should you change a timing belt on a toyota?Hi,

a 2003 Celica actually has a timing chain, not a belt. Timing belts were used up until the 1999 model when the switch was made for the 2000 and up models.

A timing chain is not replaced unless there is substantial engine wear/damage that causes the chain to become damaged. It is self-adjusting unit, you do not need to do anything with it.

If you have other maintenance concerns, check the maintenance logbook and owner's manual that came with the Celica or call a local Toyota dealership and ask to speak directly with the parts or service departments on service intervals. They should be able to provide you (at possibly a small cost) with a maintenance logbook for at least up to 100,000 miles if the Celica is missing it's logbook.

Good luck. After how many miles should you change a timing belt on a toyota?Usually the timing belt is replaced at the 60,000 to 100,000 mile mark. Check your maintenance schedule in the owner's manual to see what Toyota recommends. After how many miles should you change a timing belt on a toyota?usually between 40k and 60k miles.

if it breaks the cost will be a lot more.

How long can my car run without changing timing belt?

Its a 97 Toyota Corolla -126,000 miles. The timing belt was not changed...but the mechanic asked 500$ for the same. I just plan to run this car for a year..though I need to go for 400 miles twice this year, rest would be normal city driving...I think the car has a non interference engineHow long can my car run without changing timing belt?Hi

the 1.3 and 1.6 petrol engines, and the 2.0 diesel engines, are all interference engines, so I would suggest that you have the timing belt changed as soon as possible if any of these engines are fitted to your car.

The 1.3 and 1.6 petrol engines should take no longer than 2 hours to replace the timing belt, and the 2.0 diesel engine no longer than 3 hours.

Just for the record, its city driving that places the most strain on the belt. Long journeys at a constant respectable speed place less strain. How long can my car run without changing timing belt?Still not a good idea. Think about the headache it will cause if the timing belt blows on the highway or even around town, you'll have to pay for a tow, plus the repair. Just get it fixed now, save yourself the stress. How long can my car run without changing timing belt? After 60000 it can brake in any moment, whether 2 days or 2 years. How long can my car run without changing timing belt?A car will run until the timing belt gives out. After that there is nothing to sync the camshaft with the crankshaft and the vehicle will be dead until the belt is replaced. How long can my car run without changing timing belt?forget the mileage..the belt is THIRTEEN years old dude. Just do it, it will be way easier to SELL the car if you can say the t belt and water pump was done

See the answer below. Changing all those parts is a CAKEWALK!!! I've changed PISTON RINGS while parked outside my storage locker, laying on my back in the gravel, when I was homeless. All professional mechanics are THIEVES! 300 dollars, my aass. How much would it cost to change a honda civic 92 dx hatchback timing belt and alternater belt and water pump?Man I gotta get Jersey to work in my shop, hes working for free at the rates he quoting.

Flat rate on your car is 2.8. So it's going to be 300 labor, the water pump is $40 and the timing belt and tensioner (you always replace tensioner it even comes with the new belt) is $70. So your looking at just over $400 for the job.

  • How to change timing belt on a 1997 isuzu rodeo v6?

It's best to leave this to a skilled mechanic. The timing belt is what keeps the valve/camshaft operation synchronized with the piston/crankshaft operation. If you replace the belt and attach the new one with the wrong offset, you could do serious damage to your engine when you start it up.How to change timing belt on a 1997 isuzu rodeo v6?get a repair manual it will give you detailed instructions about how to replace your belt .. a good rule of thumb is to always put your engine on time so you can remove the belt and replace the belt without losing your timing , also make sure the marks are aligned and nothing moves when you replace the belt\How to change timing belt on a 1997 isuzu rodeo v6?Actually Isuzu did it right the V-6 engine timing belt is very easy. Auto-Zone and a couple pages of print outs you will get the water pump on and timing belt and tensioner/idlers replaced... Never attempted timing belts before? Basic tools and a couple hours you can do it. If you feel anxious do not attempt. How to change timing belt on a 1997 isuzu rodeo v6?DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a do-it-yourself job. Even experienced dealer mechanics screw this one up on a regular basis. You can do everything right and still end up with the cams out of phase which WILL result in bent valves. Isuzu even issued a TSB about this. We have one in my shop right now that experienced this very thing. All the timing marks were perfect, everything went together smoothly and it still smashed the valves after startup. The guys at the local machine shop said Isuzu heads are what keep them in business. And there are not a lot of these vehicles around!

It has a Turbo engine also. How do u change the timing belt on a 1995 eclipse? This is one of these jobs that requires knowledge and skill if you have never done this job or seen it done then i wouldn't recommend doing it, but a good place to start is the local library or maybe search on the Internet. How do u change the timing belt on a 1995 eclipse?Either buy a book, or go to the library and see if they have a book.

If you've never done this kind of job before, it can be tricky finding the cam and crank alignment marks and where they are supposed to be pointing to.

If the water pump is driven off this belt, it can also be a good idea to change it, especially if the car is at the 120,000 mile mark.

  • How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus?

i have a 2001 dodge stratus and the timing belt broke, #1 how difficult is it to change? #2 should the water pump also be replaced too?How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus?you need to replace the timing belt with the tension-er ,they make timing kit that you buy that comes with everything needed to do this with, and you need a good repair manual, because it will explain this job real good and will also give you illustrated pictures of how its done, and its not easy to do on that car,if it has the 2.4 in it you in for big job,i did one a while back and it takes all day as fast as you can work to get this one done and back together and running again, and there a real pain to get back in time also, there's to many marks to line up that you could easily get of without pics of how its done, get a good haynes repair manual they offer the best pics and advice on how to do this one,and you need to replace the water pump as well while you got it off, good luck. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus? On some, most, you have to remove the engine to replace the timing belt. On some cars you do not. I don't believe you have to on your Dodge.

One thing you need to keep in mind and watch for. When some cars break a timing belt, it also can cause internal damage to your car, like a broken valve.

There are 2 types of engines and they are called %26quot;Interference%26quot; and %26quot;Non-interference%26quot;. An engine designated as an %26quot;Interference%26quot; engine, there is not sufficient clearance between some engine parts, so when the timing belt brakes, you can usually expect internal problems as well.

Here is a list of engine that ARE Interference engines to see if yours is listed: 2.0 DOHC (Double Over-Head Cam), 2.4 SOHC and DHOC, 2.5 V-6, 3.0 DOHC and 3.2 DOHC. If you have one of those engines, expect internal damage.

Should your engine have to be removed to replace the timing belt, it will cost you around $1,000. Hard to quote a price from different states. If you have internal damage, it could mean a new engine.

If you have a Non-interference engine and you are able to replace it yourself, yest, replace the Water Pump. If I had the engine out, I probably would also change the oil pump. An oil pump that goes out down the highway will ruin your engine before you can get stopped.

If the engine has to be pulled and you take it to a dealer, and you have a Non-interference engine, let him know that you are aware of what you are talking about. Don't want him to feed you garbage. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus? The chrysler 2.4 DOHC motor isn't an interference motor. Not sure if the SOHC 2.4, 2.7, or SOHC 3.0 used in stratus' are.

I would change the waterpump along with the timing belt tensioner.

For example, I swapped a 96 Stratus 2.4 motor into my neon. The motor had 36k and prone to failure headgasket. So I installed an updated headgasket. A year later, I had to replace the waterpump. It would have been alot easier had I done it while the motor was still on the stand.

Here is a good link on the best timing belt tensioner for the Chrysler I4 motors. http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=

I know money can be tight for people. This is one of those times that being cheap can cost you more in the long run.

This job is tough. You need a strong puller for the crank pulley. Probably need some heat to help. To help time the motor, make a tool to lock the cams in place. There are holes in the cam just for this.

In my neon, it would have been faster and easier to remove the motor. But I'm experienced enough to have the motor out/in of the car within a few hours.

    Cost to change timing belt?

Hi i have a 1997 toyota corolla , how much to change the timing belt ? and do you they have to replace the water pump at the same time?Cost to change timing belt?Vman:

The response by Urban and Bill S capture the basics pretty well. However, it is incorrect to state that a chain is used for a 97 Corolla, because it uses a fabric belt (drives double overhead cams).

On this model year (both engine sizes), the timing belt drives the water pump. It takes about 45 minutes more to replace the pump when doing the belt. This includes draining the cooling system and refilling, and cleaning the area where the pump is inserted into the block - must be perfectly clean.

I recommend replacing both, because the new pump should last until the next belt change. This is good preventive maintenance. If the pump fails, the belt gets contaminated from coolant and must be replaced.

Cost (in San Jose, CA) are approx: labor for belt and pump $225, pump (OEM) $50, belt set $50 (includes idler pulley), coolant $12, valve cover gasket set $25, crankshaft and cam shaft seals, $15., sealant $4. You can pick the items you want!

The 97 Toy is a great car and should run at least 300K miles with proper maintenance. See below url for more info.

MarcCost to change timing belt?about 700 bucks...do the water pump also...the reason is you have to remove the radiator belts etc to change a waterpunp if it goes bad ...you don't want to have this procedure done twice in a year are so..maintenance books also recommends this procedureCost to change timing belt? You should replace the water pump at the same time, but you don't absolutley have to. To answer the first part of your question, it depends on where you go to have the timing belt changed. A dealership, obviously, will charge you more than a mechanic. The total $700 to $1500, unless you know someone who'll do it for you.Cost to change timing belt?we charge 259.00 for parts and labor and i would recommend doing the water pump also will save you money and labor in the future if you plan on keeping the car .and i do recommend taking it to the dealer we do them everyday , if you take it to the garage down the street it could cost you more because they don't know what there doing and could mess things up.Cost to change timing belt?they dont have to replace the water pump at the same time but if you want it done it would be best to do them together. Many people get the serpentine and timing belt mixed up. the serpentine is cheap and you can do yourself. the timing belt, well actually a timing chain is very exspensive.

How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia?

I am looking at changing the timing belt in my Mazda. I am in the military and have access to a automotive hobby shop where I can access tools and lifts needed to do the work. I am wondering how hard it is to do this job and how long it will take. Any information would be great thanks. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia?what motor? 2.5 is way easier than the 2.3. i have never done a 2.5, but if it is a 2.3, here are some pointers. you will have to pull the rt wheel, and splash shield. i also pull the motor mount, and the upper radiator hose, which means draining the coolant. this will give you clearance to remove the auto belt tensioners. ahh, the auto tensioners. there are 2. BUT WAIT-before pulling the tensioners/belts, MAKE SURE you loosen the bolt/nuts for the water pump pulley AND the p/s pump pulley. otherwise, you will have to get a really good strap wrench, and do a LOT of cussing. long extensions, and swivel head sockets are a big help, especially when removing the tensioners, and the plastic cover. of course, the motor will have to be supported, and around this time, you will probably notice that the motor mounts are fubar. they are liquid filled, and only last about 60k. dont get the ebay ones, they are NOT liquid filled, and the motor will sit too high. the hood will hit. ask me how i know. you will need a really good auto tensioner tool. the tensioners are spring loaded, and you have to relieve the tension to get the 2 serp belts off/on. if you try it with a box end, it will take 2 strong men and a boy, and there just aint much clearance in there. the motor will have to be tilted up and down several times to get at stuff. you will need a really good impact to get the bolt on the harmonic balancer. my impact is 600 ft/lbs rev torque, and it barely breaks it loose the first time. if your motor has been in the rust belt, i would first try to pull the harmonic balancer, because it will be ON there. if you cannot pull the balancer, you cannot remove the covers, and you cannot get to the timing belt. that is critical. even if it has not been in the rust belt, it is hard to remove. you may want to get a slide hammer kit to pull it off. the covers are held on with 6mm bolts, and you will need long extensions and a swivel socket to get at them, or really tiny hands and double jointed arms. you should also change out the tensioner, water pump, and pulleys. be prepared with cam/crank seals, too. however, if you need to change cam seals, that is a HUGE job. the whole intake has to come off.

some of this info also applies to the 2.5.

now the good news. mazda motors are non interference. the belt is nitrile, and mazda recommends changing it at 105k. i have seen/pulled belts at over 180k that look new. the water pumps seem to last a very long time, and the seals seem to be very good. unless you have a leak, or a bad water pump, i would let it go to 200k. if it breaks, all it will do is leave you stranded, there will not be any motor damage. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia? It depends on what is in the way... Since it's a transverse or %26quot;sideways%26quot; mounted engine, it could be pretty difficult. It's probably going to involve taking off some bolts or nuts that are hard to get to without removing other parts, but in the case of a timing belt, you don't usually have a choice. You just have to change it. You might be able to get away with just removing wheel well covers and the passenger side front wheel (depending on which side the timing belt is on). If you have any problems, get a factory service manual for that year and model from your local mazda/ford dealer. If you don't have access to one of these usually expensive manuals, go with second best and get a Haynes or Chilton manual for this car usually available at any auto parts store... Good luck.

How much it cost a to change a timing belt for 1999 acura tl ?

i need to change the timing belt for a 1999 acura tl, any idea how much is it ?How much it cost a to change a timing belt for 1999 acura tl ?Anywhere from 300-1200 depending on how experienced and honest the shop is that's doing the repair, as well as the quality of the parts and what parts are changed when doing the job. You should have the shop check and or replace the drive belts, waterpump, tensioner, idler and any seals if their leaking while they change the timing belt. Good luck and hope this helps. How much it cost a to change a timing belt for 1999 acura tl ?If the belt has broken, you can count on a fairly large repair bill. Usually, valves get bent. If your belt is still intact, do the right thing and let the delaership do it. They will use genuine factory parts with a REAL warranty, and use the correct water pump and coolant, if required. Call a few dealers to see if they have competitive prices. If you have an outside repair shop do the work, make SURE that they are using genuine Acura parts and NOT some aftermarket junk. You will probably need new tensioners and rollers. GOOD LUCK!!

How much does it cost to change a timing belt in a car?

I have a ford ranger and I need to get the timing belt changed. does anyone have an idea how much it costs to get one changed. I live in the uk but the cost for anywhere is better than nothing

ThanksHow much does it cost to change a timing belt in a car?All of the belt driven accessories at the front of the engine and the timing chain cover will have to be removed. Depending on the mechanic, since this is very labour intensive, this could be several hundered dollars. Expect to pay around five hundred for parts and labour, at minimum.

If you want to save money, you could do this yourself for only the cost of the timing chain. Get a manual such as Haynes for your model and year vehicle. It's just a lot to remove.

My currency estimates are in US dollars. How much does it cost to change a timing belt in a car?Not necessarily. The prices we give you here are meaningless to you since they have no relation to how much someone will charge you when they actually do it.How much does it cost to change a timing belt in a car? That will depend on the car. In the UK, I would just guess at least 150 pounds. If it has a dual over-head cam, then it would be more. Depending on the car, it can be a very taxing job. Good luck. How much does it cost to change a timing belt in a car?why do you ask this question here?

This forum will get you quotes from all over the world, totally irrelevant to where you are.

How do I know when to change my timing belt?

I just bought a used car and have no idea when the timing belt was changed. Went to a body shop and they looked at the belt and said that there is usually a sticker affixed to the belt where it mentions what mileage it was last changed at; however, my car did not have this. I have a 1996 Toyota Corolla with 173,000 miles on it.

I just don't want to get ripped off. How do I know when to change my timing belt?to tell you the truth you should replace it every 90,000 miles. if not at about 100,000 miles you take the risk of it snapping.

But a word to the wise if you ar replacing the belt replace the water pump also. They tend to be connected together, and you would hate to have to pay for more labor on a part that could have been done at the same time.

Good luck with everything. :)How do I know when to change my timing belt?First mistake is you went to a body shop. You should have gone to a mechanic. You can't just look at a timing belt without removing the cover and a few other item's (to gain access). I'm a firm believer if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you car start's ok leave it alone. If it jumped timing then take it to a mechanic and have it replaced ( I would recommend a toyota dealer, you'll probably get a better warranty). My spouse has an 05 toyota 4runner with 160,000 miles and has no timing belt problem. Body shop's are for dent's and paint. If you don't want to get ripped off buy a repair manual on you vehicle and research it. it'll give you step by step instruction'sHow do I know when to change my timing belt?Pull the timing cover off and look at the belt teeth and look at the back of the belt to determine if it looks old and dry. Move the belt in and out to see how much play it has. You need to have experience to determine what you observe. If you have never checked a timing belt before have an experienced mechanic check it out. I'd replace the pulleys and waterpump while you're at it with the mileage you are at.How do I know when to change my timing belt?I would check and see if the belt looks excessively worn or if you are able to see the chords it would need to be changed immediately. Around 100,000 miles most people get the belts changed as if you dont it does sometimes cause serious problems to the motor if it goes out while the car is running. How do I know when to change my timing belt?if the belt is cracked or real weathered looking, you need to change it.it is not that hard to change one.just make sure that you have the crankshaft marked and the camshaft marked. do not turn the the engine over or turn the cam or the crankshaft.good luck

How much does it cost to change a Timing Belt?

Hi How much does it cost to change a Timing Belt? I have a VW Polo 2000 and the Timing belt wants changing is it expensive to change? i want to buy the belt myself and get a garage to change it.

ThanksHow much does it cost to change a Timing Belt?A good garage won't fit a belt you provide yourself, as they cannot guarantee its quality. In any case, it is the labour which will cost most.

I'd ring around several garages for quotes. Again, a good one will suggest you at least also let them look at the tensioner and maybe other pulleys, depending on how it's set up, while they're at it. This is because it's often false economy just to fit the belt and have to dismantle it all again in the near future.

As already said, although it costs a fair bit that is nothing to what it will cost if it fails . . .How much does it cost to change a Timing Belt?about $400.00 depends on the vehicle, it's a huge job. Total cost is eight hundred dollars (four hundred pounds) and money well spent if you have an %26quot;interference%26quot; type engine that suffers $$$ damage if the belt breaks. If not, just keep driving and let the belt break. Then get a tow job from your cell phone. How much does it cost to change a Timing Belt?Well in Ireland a timing belt for a 00 Polo is about 鈧?0. That's for a %26quot;Gates%26quot; brand which is one of the best. The labour here is about 鈧?0 and it shouldn't be anymore, if it is then your being ripped off cause it's not a huge job in most cases. How much does it cost to change a Timing Belt?In the uk, if a dealer replaces a timing belt, the new belt is guaranteed for life, should it break, the dealer is responsible for the repairs to the engine.

You wont get the same guarantee from other garages so I think it is worth the extra.

  • How Long Does It Take To Change A Timing Belt?

A friend asked me if I could change her timing belt for her since I've done other repairs for her (brake pads, master cylinder, oil changes, etc... ) and I don't want to let her down ;) but the only problem is that it's been a while since I've done this and I'm not sure how long and how difficult the job will be. Any one know some tricks of the trade that may help? It's for a dc2 00' btw.How Long Does It Take To Change A Timing Belt?Danger, Will Robinson! I assume you mean it is an Integra DC2. That is an ambitious job at best. If you have access to a manly impact wrench (500 ft-lb minimum) to loosen the crank bolt the rest is fairly simple, if labor intensive. I allow a day to change a Honda/Acura timing belt because of the potential for things going pear-shaped, and to take the time pressure off. Access is not good and it is normally advised to remove the driver's side engine mount (along with moving accessories on that side) for access. Honda vehicles are like onions (or ogres) - they are in layers, and removing the outer layers is the trick to having room to work.

The crank bolt deserves some consideration, for it is a worthy opponent. My 500 ft-lb impact wrench requires the pressure regulator be put right at the inlet of the driver, and even then it struggles a bit. The damper needs one of the two types of holders to hold it during re-torquing. See the sources for more.

The water pump should be changed when the timing belt is off. The tensioner really should be changed, too.How Long Does It Take To Change A Timing Belt? Some GM where you can see the entire belt and get to the tension-er. 15 min with a 3/8%26quot; or 1/2%26quot; ratchet to release tension..

They are impossible to change without equipment to support the engine. I have seen others I could change in under 5 minutes without tools. I am not familiar with your vehicle. How Long Does It Take To Change A Timing Belt?I have no idea what a DC2 is.

Knowing the exact year, make, model, and engine trim of her car might help.

I've only done one timing belt, and that was on a Ford Contour with a Zetec engine. That sucked bigtime. No clearance to get the water pump pulley off, they kept changing the engine so the guides were only half-true, timing marks are impossible to line up (tiny notch must be lined up to a mark three inches back, and camshafts require a special tool), motor mount had to be removed (not as bad as the first guy said, you would just use a jack and a 2x4 to hold the engine up).

Belt shredded again later because of an undiagnosed tensioner problem... took an afternoon to fix again.

But then again, Fords are impossible to work on

Do I need to replace the timing belt tensioner when I change the timing belt?

It's a 98 Ford Ranger 4x2 with the 2.5L 4 cyl. It broke the timing belt. How do I know if I should change the timing belt idler / tensioner when I do the belt? Can I tell if it's bad? Neither my local parts guys or the Ford dealer stocks it, only the belt. Anything else I should be looking at while it's apart?Do I need to replace the timing belt tensioner when I change the timing belt?yes you should always change it, we always do in a dealerDo I need to replace the timing belt tensioner when I change the timing belt?If I where you I would at least purchase the tensioner and then compare it to your tensioner and if it seems even a little bit sloppy or worn I would replace it. If you think its ok you can just return it after the job is done. Also dont forget to replace the waterpump while your at it unless you want to tear it back down before you know it.Do I need to replace the timing belt tensioner when I change the timing belt?Get a timing belt kit which comes with the timing belt, all idler pulley and tensioner.Maybe change the cam and crank seals to prevent oil leak later on,and water pump too.Do I need to replace the timing belt tensioner when I change the timing belt?Because of the wear and tear on the timing belt tensioner I recommend changing the tensioner

How do you change a timing belt on a 1995 ford probe?

There is nothing else wrong with the car, just need a timing belt. If you could tell me how i can change it by myself without going to a mechanic that would be great :)How do you change a timing belt on a 1995 ford probe? You need to get the passenger side front tire off, take off the plastic wheel liner in the wheel well, take off all of your pulleys and accesories for example; ac compressor, power steering pump, alternator, take off the front main seal, the belt is accessible there.

Make it a lot easier on your self and go to autozone and get a Haynes Repair Manual for your car, they're only 10 or 15 bucks and will tell you step by step what to do.How do you change a timing belt on a 1995 ford probe?wow meg, thats not one of your typical do it ya self jobs, but to change it you need certain tools and and maybe a in-fared scanner 2 be exact but if u do it wrong ya car will backfire or never start but take it 2 a shade tree machanic or a pro that knows what he's doingHow do you change a timing belt on a 1995 ford probe? This is the intervals at which the belt should be replaced I am assuming it is a 2.0 litre; On 1993?7 Probe, replace at 60,000 mile intervals. 1.Disconnect battery ground cable, then isolate cable end with electrical tape.

    2.Remove cylinder head valve cover.

3.Remove power steering pump belt shield, then loosen adjusting bolt.

4.Loosen lock bolt and power steering pump through bolt, then remove power steering belt.

5Loosen alternator adjusting bolt and alternator upper mounting bolt, then remove alternator belt.

6.Support engine using three bar engine support No. 014-00750 or equivalent.

7.Using suitable jack, raise engine slightly and remove right hand engine mount.

    8.Remove timing belt upper cover.

9.Raise and support vehicle, then remove splash shields.

10..Using crankshaft pulley holder T92C-6316-AH or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley attaching bolt.

11.Remove crankshaft pulley, sprocket and guide plate.

12.Remove timing belt lower cover bolts, then the cover.

13.temporarily install crankshaft pulley attaching bolt.

14.Turn crankshaft until timing mark on crankshaft sprocket lines up with timing mark on oil pump and camshaft sprocket timing marks (E and I) line up as shown.

15.Lower vehicle and insert camshaft pulley holding tool T92C-6256-AH or equivalent.

16.Use an allen wrench to turn timing belt tensioner and remove timing belt tensioner spring from hook pin.

17.Remove timing belt. NOTE : If reusing old timing belt, mark direction of belt for installation reference.

18.Reverse procedure to install, ensuring all timing marks are aligned.

This is a pretty involved operation depending on your skill level, but i am a firm believer that a woman can do anything a man can do!!! :) I tried to paste in the alignment marks but couldn't (keep in mind that this is a interference engine- This means if you don't get the timing properly aligned and you crank the engine over there is a possibility that you can bend your valves (damage the engine internally)

My timing belt are sceaming when i'm running my car. They told me it needs to be changed. I want to know how much it can cost in total to change them. The car is a mitsubishi galant 97.How much can it cost to change the timing belt of a mitsubishi 97 galant? Are you sure they said timing belt? Timing belts don't generally scream, they are internal and if not working, your vehicle won't run. Perhaps they said serpentine belt, more likely, which can get glazed and cracked and slip and scream, louder as you accelerate.

In either case, cost will be the cost of parts, plus the labor rate times the number of hours to fix the problem. If it's the timing belt it will be more since covers will have to be removed, etc. Serpentine belt is fairly simple. How much can it cost to change the timing belt of a mitsubishi 97 galant?i would say it was your alternator/fan belt which is screaming, not the timing belt. for a start, your timing belt has teeth on it, which prevents it slippin, if it did slip, you would know cos your car would run differently. ask at another garage, for a new alternator belt changing, its no more than 50 quid. for a timing belt, no more than 200 quid. defo try the alternator belt first tho, and save moneyHow much can it cost to change the timing belt of a mitsubishi 97 galant?ya timeing would cast round 500-600bucks cuz you have to pull the motor but the timing shouldnt slip if it would your car would back fire alot and maby stall id spray belt dressing on the alinaor belt to be sure thats itHow much can it cost to change the timing belt of a mitsubishi 97 galant?prob about 200 bucks, if it breaks it will cost you 2000 in repairs or more its worth the money to pay someone

How hard is it to change the timing belt in a 2003 Hyundai Accent?

I am fairly good in the garage but have never worked on anything serious on my Hyundai- just regular maintenance. It has just rolled over to 60k on the mileage and that it when it is suggested to change the timing belt. The dealership wants $500 to do it. Is it worth it? The timing belt itself is only $35- so the labor has to be extensive. Is it worth it to take it in or is investing the time to do it myself the way to go?How hard is it to change the timing belt in a 2003 Hyundai Accent? There are simple things that everyone can do however there are complicated repairs/maintenance that requires finesse and knowledge. Timing belt replacement is one of the tough ones. $ 500 to replace the belt its too much Labor should not exceed $ 300 with LTS (Labor Time Standard Guide - Mitchell Book) allowing 2.4 hr to replace the belt. Multiply that by shop hourly rate and that should be your labor dollars to pay. You can negotiate the price or choose a different shop. Its worth to let a qualified technician to replace the belt for you. Like the previous guy said, one wrong move and with first crank on the engine and you will be seeking for major repairs. How hard is it to change the timing belt in a 2003 Hyundai Accent? You need to remember a few things when doing a cam belt. Mainly, if you cock it up you car is dead as there is no clearance between the valve and the pistons. In the first stroke you'll bemd the valves if you too far advanced. My company has just invested 3000 in a cam belt locking tool set. (massive thing it is lol) you might even find you need to buy a sprocket locking set which is very expensive. lay off the dealer, in my garage i'd charge 260 for that. just make sure where ever you go they will give you warranty. Plus that price is prob belt only, you'll be wanting to do the tensioner as well, get a price on that then the $500 will seem a bit more value for money.

How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?

i broke a prospective car over to my mechanic to check it out...its a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000 miles, he said it will need the timing belt changed in 3,000 miles...because if it breaks on me, it will affect the motor...he said the same of my 1994 escort at 67,000 miles and it has 85,000 now, and i still havent changed it..im playing with fire on that one Im sure.....what do u think on the HYUNDAI....?How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?very important. should it snap...it will not be possible to repair the vehicle...so best not to play with fire, eh?How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?Hmm, quite important if you would like to not have it break down on the interstate and screw your car up for good, thus leaving you in the hot summer sun...SCREWED. By the way, Hyundai sucks. How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?It sounds to me like you need to find another mechanic! Most vehicles these days (1990-current) usually need the timing belt changed at 100,000 miles. Sounds like your mechanic is pulling your leg on this one. Just to be safe, check your owners manual to verify the date or milage it should be changed. And even then I would have it looked at every other oil change to inspect for damage or wear. If there is no rough running in the motor or missing (cylinder not firing), it should be ok until 100,000 miles! How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?It all depends on how it was driven in those 57K miles. My 02 Elantra GLS we just traded in (with 90K on the odometer) and I had NOT changed the belts because they looked good and were tight upon frequent inspection. It's about a $200-300 service but as others said, don't play with fire -especially since you don't know how it was driven before you got it. The person before you could have totally ragged out the car.

My Hyundai was a great car...I traded it in on a new 07 GLS and got a great deal. How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?veryHow important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?Change it at 60K, if it breaks before that, the warranty should pay for it. It will cost around $350 to change it before it breaks and about $1800 to change it after it breaks. It will most likely break before 80K. But exactly when...nobody knows. Don't chance it-change it.How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?The timing belt is actually that, a belt ! You don't want to run the risk of costly engine repairs because of the belt snapping. Sure it may look good and could go over 100k but why take that chance ? If it was a chain you could go over 100k without much worry. How important is it to change timing belt on a 2002 hyundai elantra with 57,000?I have seen timing belts break and take out the engine on, otherwise, very well running cars, and sadly, they are scrapped over it. I would highly recommend changing it, especially if you do alot of driving, and since you haven't owned the vehicle from new so you don't know how the vehicle was previously driven. Other things that you will need to be aware of with this particular model is the wiper transmission will seize and need replacing, and the front pipe/manifold will likely crack and need replacing. Otherwise, great little reliable cars that definitely get the job done.

    cost varies with quality:

how much quality do you want.

you can do it for $100 at home but you need a book and some advice on how to do it. ( just the minimum)

you can have it done and do the water pump with it.

the water pump is Tbelt driven.

they might find the front seals leakiing and it would be folly to ignore that.

cars are complex and cost money to maintain.

if you play a game of denial , it will come back and really cost you. In fact this one issue ,makes mechanics very rich.

pennywise and pound foolish , for the engine, brakes.

    the whole driveline in fact.

    have it done right.

Front wheel cars are expensive to work on.

It was cheap to make , nows the time to pay for that decision. What is the average charge for timing belt change?$400 - $600 range. I would say most place would charge around $500 range.

Parts typically replaced are timing belt, and water pump. I usually change the belt tensioner for every other timing belt replacement job. If you mail order, the part should run under $100. Esp. Timing belt, low end I found for my civic was $40, and high end was $120 for Honda OE belt. Most mail order place had it for $80 - $90 range.

Doing this yourself isn't too difficult. The hardest thing is removing the crankshaft pulley nut. It is torqued at 140 ft/lbs and is pain to remove without some holding tool.

If you have not change the timing belt before, then you might want someone to show you how to take it out and put it in. What I usually do is set the engine to TDC, and run a paint marker between the belt, and cam pulley. Then take the belt out, transfer the markings to the new belt, and install and verify the alignment after. After the belt installation, take out the spark plugs, put socket over the crank bolt, and spin it to check for valve/piston contact. If you remember to check, there is no way you can damage the engine. (even if you misalign the belt)What is the average charge for timing belt change?450-600 wth the water pump. parts are probably around 100-150 in a local parts store. What is the average charge for timing belt change?every 60000 miles, don't chance changing t/belt cos if ya do it wrong it will destroy the whole engine without warning

  • How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?

how often do i need to change a timing belt and water pump on my car? also, how much should it cost? should i have it done at the dealers or at a small mechanic shop if i chose to? which would be best? what are steps when having timing belt change? How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?The timing belt needs to be change according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Lacking that knowledge, 60,000 miles is a safe interval.

The water pump does not need to be changed unless if fails.

It's not possible to quote a cost on changing either. Some are fairly quick and easy -- SOHC I-4s without the silent shafts can be as little as $150.00 for the timing belt, and about the same for the water pump. A bit less if both are changed at the same time, possibly. A more complex engine such as a DOHC 4 with silent shafts or a DOHC V-6 or V-8mcan be much more expensive -- several hundred $$$ or more because there may be multiple belts and getting the timing right is a chore. A few are downright nasty as the engine needs to be pulled to get enough room to work on them -- early Hyundai Sonatas were that way.

Any competent mechanic can do the job, you don't normally need to go a dealer. That said, the dealer is likely to have factory trained staff and may be familiar with shortcuts and have any special tools needed.

The exact procedure is specific to the individual engine. You need a service manual to get it right. Cam timing is hyper-critical. Mess that up and at best the engine won't run. At worst, you can destroy the engine if valves hit the pistons. How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?Not knowing the car and the market you live in...

    $3-500 is a good guess...

Call the dealer and price them, sometimes they are so experienced doing a job they will quote less then an independent repair shop...

    Usually not though.

they always seem to say when you should do it and what they charge. the water pump shouldnt be much extra (100?)since they are already doing the timing belt.

call a mechanic you trust and ask them. If you do not have one then ask your friends who is good.

the dealer will rip you off on price, it can easily cost double there

would you rater pay someone inexperienced at the dealer $100 per hour or someone who has done it for 40 years $60 per hour and he does it faster anyways (so it costs less)(and they take pride in their work)(and they will replace other parts that need it for cheap and leave pieces that are still good because they know)

The dealer might charge you for 6 hours because the book says that even if they only spend 4 doing it!

a VERY rough guess would be 600+100 for water pump

you do not need to replace timing belt very often. I am thinking 60,000 miles.

look up in owners manual or shop manual for your car for replacement interval.

How much does it cost to change a timing belt at a local auto repair?

i ask this guy at this local auto repair and he told me it would cost you $500 for changing timing belt on your 92 camryHow much does it cost to change a timing belt at a local auto repair? The Labor according to the Mitchell Labor guide to replace the Timing belt and the water pump is between 3.5 and 4 hours. So, If the labor rate in your Area is say 80.00 per hour, that is $320.00 plus the Belt, Water Pump and you should always replace the Tensioner for the Belt. So $450.00 to $500.00 sounds about right. How much does it cost to change a timing belt at a local auto repair?water pump, tensioner and pulleys should be checked as well. I never quote timing belt jobs without discussing the other components that usually are failing. 90% of the time, pulley bearings are noisy and some tensioners need to be replaced to insure you don't have premature failure and pay labor of R %26amp; R again. Water pump I agree with previous answer is a must. Don't skimp, and if you have a no tolerance engine, (valve to piston clearance) any failure will cost you big time $$$.

I would be in the $700.00 or so range with all quality components. Also, make sure the belt is OEM or highest quality. The extra cost is trivial compared to premature failure. How much does it cost to change a timing belt at a local auto repair?NO NO NO go to another garage and do not discuss the other mechanic ---- just ask for an estimate and then go to 4 or 5 more and see where you get the best price ---- not telling us the city that you live in is leaving out the price factor of labor -- like downtown NYC the price is about ok ... somewhere else not so good .... should be about 250.00 to 325.00 depends area ...How much does it cost to change a timing belt at a local auto repair?maybe little bit high (should be about $400 +/- $50). The price also depends on the car. My Audi cost me $1350 at the dealer. My Civic cost me about $400 at a local shop.

Price to change timing belt and water pump?

how much will it cost to have a timing belt and water pump at a independent auto shop? the dealer is asking for $1100, its an acura.Price to change timing belt and water pump?Depends on what year. The newer these cars get the harder and harder it is to do this kind of work.

Is it a front-wheel drive? If it is, that makes replacing the water pump and timing belt infinitely more difficult.

That kind of job is always pricey, but I would suggest looking around a bit first. I don't remember ever charging over a grand even on the most horrible little Japanese cars for that kind of job.Price to change timing belt and water pump?wow that's alot. It is a tough job. the parts cost about 100-200 but it's all labor. 1100 though is a lot. it depends what year it is. I would pay that for an -05-08 but any earlier I'd llook around

How to change timing belt on peugeot 306 meridian?

I'm having trouble finding /locating the place to insert a bolt through the block to hold crankshaft in position as oil filter seems to be in the way - has anyone else done this? How to change timing belt on peugeot 306 meridian?I have photos of this for you. Taken on a TU engine in a 205, very similar to the 306 TU engine. Here come the photos. OIL FILTER is far away!? !

''tensioning the belt%26quot; is easy IF you have a thumb and a forefinger. If you can turn the new belt 90 degrees between thumb and forefinger, it is GOOD. Farther? = too loose. Professional mechanics I know, use their fingers and NOT a special tool. Change the tensioner at the same time, let it do the work!

    FIRST!!!

    Ten mm shiny bolt in camshaft pulley. Into the head. Remove old belt little by little after blocking the flywheel (second photo) and loosening the tensioner, see third photo;

    http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155

    SECOND:

Engine block to flywheel. Use a 6mm bolt. Oil filter is 8 inches to the left. Bolt goes in one full inch! Slightly wiggle flywheel if necessary with a 22mm socket on the crankshaft end bolt. Wiggle very slightly!!

    http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155

    THIRD:

The tensioner with a square bar inserted. EASY to adjust! Again, notice the 10mm bolt in the upper right corner of photo. This prevents changing position of camshaft.

I have dozens of photos while changing the entire head. Just ask if you need something else. How to change timing belt on peugeot 306 meridian? From your question you are light years away from the correct method. Invest in a Haynes manual - 20 Halfords, before you do any damage. Incidentally you will either have to buy a tensioning tool from a dealer or get them to tension the belt. It can't be done safely any other way.

  • How much does it cost to change timing belt?

I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla that's close to 118,000 miles. I just need an idea on how much would it cost to do it including and excluding water pump. I changed the timing belt once when it was 58,000.How much does it cost to change timing belt?I'm not an expert on this car but you generally need to replace timing belts every 60,000 miles, so you are just coming due. It will usually cost more at a dealer for a timing belt replacement than at a neighborhood mechanic, assuming you have a neighborhood mechanic that you trust for such work. I would expect a dealer to charge $500-750 for a timing belt replacement and a local mechanic to charge $350-500.

It is very likely that the mechanic (either at the dealer or an independent) will recommend replacing other parts, including belts, rollers, gaskets and the water pump. It's usually fairly difficult to get the timing belt off so it makes sense to replace other things that are in the vicinity of the timing belt. Therefore, don't be surprised if there is a list of other items that the mechanic recommends for replacement.

When I replace a timing belt, I almost always replace the water pump and I check carefully if any rollers or tensioning components look questionable. It's far easier to replace these things now and save the possibility of an inconvenient failure. But I hear you if you can't afford to tack on $200 of miscellaneous parts. How much does it cost to change timing belt?go to your local mechanicHow much does it cost to change timing belt?cheap I hear, not sure about the exact amountHow much does it cost to change timing belt?Cost varies, depending on accessories your car has, specifically: A/C, 2WD or 4WD. I can assume your car is 2WD with a/c.

The timing belt itself (the part only, cost %26lt;$50.00), but the installation requires removal of entire front of the engine. So the big cost is labor, probably $200 to $300. Since the water pump and timing belt are next to each other make sure to have the water pump replaced at the same time. You wouldn't want to go back 6 months from now and pay $50 for water pump and another $200 to $300 in labor. How much does it cost to change timing belt?when you do the timing belt its every 90K miles.

you got awhile to go before you need it done again

but most wont do the timing belt without doing water pump/accessory belts.

my guess on price would be about 200-300 bucks

Please! Can any body help me with some instruction how to change timing belt?

I 've replaced more than 30 timing belts on different car model.

But when it comes the lexus RX 300 2002 ,I never change one.

%26quot;My main concern%26quot;I want to know if it requires a special tool and how many hours! Please! Can any body help me with some instruction how to change timing belt?No special tools. It's hard to get to. For an experienced tech, it will maybe take 1.5 hrs.

Just disassemble everything around the timing belt cover. Then take the cover off. Then remove the tensioner. Then put the belt on and put it back together. No special tools.

The money you're saving doing the belt yourself is worth the investment! How to change a timing belt on a 99 mercury cougar?i would not recommend a step by step instruction for something like a timing belt job.

also, i hope you will change the water pump, all external drive belts, cam shaft seal, crank shaft seal, re-fill new coolant, and a new valve cover gasket.

That is a timing belt JOB. not just replacing the belt. That does you no good when the cam shaft seal goes bad and starts leaking on the exhaust and giving you alot of smoke or if the water pump goes bad, then you have to take ALL THAT TIME TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN, when you could have done it all at once because everything is right next to each other. that is several hundred dollars at the mechanic all over again.

This is a form of preventive maintenance.

    To prevent failure.

    Belts stretch.

As well as drive a plastic water pump usually.

Most imports you have to change the timing belt and water pump at the same time.

Now if the timing belt fails you will have pistons hit vavles.

Usually the result is a new engine. When to change timing belt for Mitsubishi Lancer?Sometimes never only if you have trouble. Are you and if not do not worry

The 1997 passport to performance (scheduled maintenance guide) for the Camry might be your best bet.

    http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/

All Camrys sold in the US from 1990-2001 have a timing belt, not a timing chain.

    Toyota's FAQ: %26quot;Does my vehicle have a timing belt or a timing chain?%26quot;

    http://www.toyota.com/help/faqs/service-

For model year 1998 and older vehicles (such as yours), Toyota recommends inspecting the timing belt at the initial 60,000 mile or 4 year interval, and re-inspect at every 15,000 mile interval thereafter. But, since the costs for inspection is about the same as that of replacement, you should probably just change it at every 60,000 mile or 4 year interval.

    Toyota's FAQ: %26quot;What maintenance is required on my timing belt?%26quot;

    http://www.toyota.com/help/faqs/service-

So, if it has been more than 4 years or 60,000 miles since you last had your timing belt changed, you should probably have it replaced.

As for whether or not you can change the timing belt yourself, that would depend on your mechanical aptitude... If you have to ask, then you probably should just take your car to a professional. How do you know if you need a timing belt change for your car i have a 96 toyota camary?Deer Park is right. If your car is idling funny, it won't be the timing belt that causes that. Get it tuned up. You should change your timing belt every 60,000 miles. That is the recommended service interval for the timing belt service. The service also includes replacing the water pump, seals, and other belts. Still the idle problem sounds like either you need a tuneup, fuel filter change, or fuel injection service. How do you know if you need a timing belt change for your car i have a 96 toyota camary?well if you have no paper work for it. then open the hood and look at your engine. on the right side of the, or left if your standing in front looking at the engine. look at the side of the engine where the belts are. you will notice there is a plastic cover and where that cover meets the metal part of the engine, this is the timing cover. there should be a sticker on the top that says the milage when it was last replaced. and it is 100 000 kms or 62 500 miles. it should be replaced. How do you know if you need a timing belt change for your car i have a 96 toyota camary? That sounds like an electrical problem ie: spark plugs, leads, distributor.

Your wasting your time and money if you are hoping to get rid of the shakes, by replacing your timing belt.

Maybe your belt needs to be changed regardless, but it wont affect the idling of the car what so ever. How do you know if you need a timing belt change for your car i have a 96 toyota camary? You need a timing belt when it squeels..
